Pool as it should be

This video shows proper pool-imo.

Not tourney play as that’s a different thing all together. This is 2 guys(I think they might play ok 😉) just playing pool.

No complaints about the cloth, looks fine to me. Or the table for that matter. Again looks good to me. Rails look like there’s a bit of talc on them.

They are in action settling up every rack-wonderful (Gambol)

Not making each other shoot the $ ball every time (respect) in one case letting a guy shoot it again after he missed the whole ball. Again more respect.

The 5 ball is NOT purple.

Nobody complaining

Rail birds are chillin

No rack mechanics-checking the rack and that’s about it.

In summery they are having fun, in action, not arguing or bitching and maiming that it’s hot, humid or what ever excuse they can find. They are just playing pool-as it should be.

Looks perfect!
That’s why I started playing pool.

I wouldn’t have ever played pool if it was race to 4 or 5 alt break. I’d have flipped coins

I wouldn’t have started playing with a purple 5 ball-long story as to why

I wouldn’t have started playing with all the arguing about equipment. Do my shots count or not because someone agrees or disagrees with the pocket size or other pocket dimensions.

No rack mechanics or template racks. Checking the rack is cool. Now it takes longer to rack the balls than run them in these race to 4&5 events. Time them and see. More racking than playing. Sad….are they rackers or players? I’m not sure

I wouldn’t have started playing if a spec is on the cloth. Or a small hold, or a burn mark, or if there’s chalk dust in the cloth-God forbid the table isn’t as sterile as a clean room at a chip factory.

I would t have started playing if talc powder was a bad thing. Or if I set my chalk face down on the rail because I’m thinking about my shot and not where tf I set the chalk.

Pool has lost its way. Or the newer players have. Idk I just ain’t down with this current mindset of pool people.

Milk drinkers, sterile tables with some sort of pockets that must be perfect and “their” idea of what that is. Forget gambling that’s always bad(I respect people who don’t gamble on pool, that’s a personal choice-but don’t knock action).

Trying to figure out what cue dimensions will make you a better player before you hit a ball. When I learned about cues. I used a cue, if I liked it THEN I’d get the specs AFTER I knew I liked it. These days it’s ass backwards. Sells more cues for sure they way they are marketing cues now. Does that help pool, or pool vendors/manufacture??? Big difference there.

Watching that video of 2 guys(of course I know what I’m watching) who are world class players-just play pool for $ and not bitch and moan got me thinking. That’s what it was when I started pool and that’s what I miss. I’m not a tourney player, never was a great player but I’m a pool player who likes to gamble. The nut hunters piss me off too, but that’s another topic

The arguing and losing friends while gambling pushed me toward 3Cushion.

Not a lot of arguing and very little gambling. We're just happy to get a game in this age.

Of course there are comments about table conditions.
Gotta have something to explain how horrible that shot turned out?

3C is a totally different world.

Gentleman play 3C, I’ve played plenty and I’m not good. I’ve ran a few 4’s, which is pretty weak by any measure of success in 3C.

The willingness of stronger players to help me learn 3C has always been there. Not just in one spot, over decades in different rooms. Even in Japan the 3C guys weee all super nice to me and helpful. It’s clear I’m a pool player not a 3C player. But when I play 3C I behave like a gentleman as well.

And yes I know how to make a proper 3C bridge with ny hand, but my stroke and shot selection is a dead give away I’m not 3C player. However I do enjoy playing.

Pool & 3C are played on similar equipment. 2 different worlds.

I used to say hello and good bye to the 3C players at HOB in Santa Monica when ever I’d go in, shake hands with them all. Class guys.

Best

I love the speed of that cloth. The fast cloth that we play on today makes it too easy to move the cue ball.

Played on this 7 foot Valley last night. Nothing to love about cloth speed here.

Not even a D player should be subjected to this. And don’t let the lighting fool you, it wasn’t nearly this bright.

yup no magic bullets as in carbon shafts and break cues. where was magic carbon years back when we realy needed it. now days not in need what so ever due to the speed of tables, wood does the job with regular maple or with LD property shafts. End of day all cues have deflection, matter of adjustment. This is just good old pool for sure! good watch!
