Pool Balls in Cues

There is a local cuemaker (Bobby Callahan) that uses balls in the joints of some of his cues. I find the look interesting and when I thought about it. It is a phenolic joint like many cues have. What say you about this? Ill try to snap a couple pictures next time I'm there.
