So we all know what this is, At least those of us who play this game with any sense of seriousness. Now when I started out on my Journey in this wonderful sport of pool no one ever taught me what Pool etiquette was, I learned simply by common sense. You sit when you're not shooting and you give your opponent his/her respect while at the table. No sharking goes without saying.
I write this post in the quest to find out if Pool Etiquette is something that now needs to be taught to the up and coming pool generation or if we are leaning more towards a society of brain dead Morons. Forgive me if I'm being a bit harsh, there is some frustration flowing through me as I write this Post due in part to a recent incident I had while Playing.
A friend and I were engaged in a competitive straight pool match, no big money Involved, $20 a game best of 3. The afternoon was going along nicely until all of a sudden I notice that the "Genius" Managers at the pool hall had put two young guys(apparently in their early twenties)right next to our table. It bothered me more because the place was practically empty.
So here we go, our once peaceful competitive afternoon was about to go to.......well you know what I mean. First they started by talking loudly on their cells phones, then they were taking their sweet time around the table ignoring that there were other players directly next to them waiting to shoot!! all the while.... sharing one damn cue!
That in itself did not bother me as much until this happened, in the middle of my match I notice that one of the "Geniuses" is watching his friend shoot while comfortably resting his behind on my table! At that point I thought enough was enough and I approached the two nicely and asked them to keep to their table because we were gambling and they were in our way, I was upset but I still asked politely...One of them tells me "All you had to do was ask"....To which I replied, WTF?....I have to ask you not to lean on my table while I'm playing? have we all of a sudden become so stupid?
Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong but doesn't pool etiquette go hand in hand with common sense? Well to make a long story short I offered to ask him nicely once more, outside in the street if he would like, when just as things were getting heated the Manager stepped in and asked them to move to another table.
So I ask you all, am I overreacting or is this a bigger issue than we think?
I would love to hear your stories and your take on this matter......let's see where we all stand on this issue.
Great pool and success,
Jay
