Pool for Poker

Well I did it. I broke down yesterday and played in a poker tournament. I'm probably the last pool player in my area to do it. In my small town there isn't much action anyway.
The tournament was $50.00 buy in and you got $6,000 in chips. There were about 20 people in the tournament. During the first hour you can re-buy as many times as you want. Needless to say the action was pretty loose. I played very tight and was determined to only spend $50.00.

Right before the hour is up, they have the "action hand". This is the last hand before the break. It's also the last time you can re-buy. I had 12,000 in chips going into the hand and was on the button. My cards were A Q suited. Everyone was betting big because they knew they could re-buy one more time. Anyway, I lose the hand to a set of Jacks. Leaving me with only $2050 in chips. I was able to re-buy an additional $12,000 in chips for $80.00. I was knocked out about 45 minutes after that.

I can see why everyone is playing poker because it certainly is fun. However, I'm not sure I'll go back. There was too much smoke for me. I quite one year ago and everyone around me was smoking like a freight train. I can't handle it.

This was a legitimate tournament with dealers. First place paid $1,000. I don't remember the others. It paid down to fourth place.

I've entered a few poker tournaments as well after picking up the game a couple of months ago. No luck so far, but we're also playing with other pool players from our club with cheap $10 tournaments for fun and experience and it certainly is fun to play holdem tournaments. Admitted, a few times I skipped my practice to play poker
