Warning:This is not against gambling but it is aimed at some of the behaviors of some but not all gamblers.
In most of the pool halls you find money players playing on particular pool tables. In some pool halls the owners of the room has a policy NOT to rent some tables for the players who do not intend to play for money.I saw in one pool room where u can not rent that one particular table if u do not intend to play 9 ball and nothing but 9 ball.I DO NOT have problems with those policies. But the problem comes in pool halls where u do not have such policies of restricion.when you are practicing on a table that is usually prefered by action players,a money player comes and asks u to leave the table and go to another table or might ask u ``how long u are going to be here etc...``
Does he think that his game is more important than u?
Does he feel entitled for that table?
Does he feel that he has the right to confront u or give intimidating looks?

My ADVICE to the new and young:
Do not let these guys bully u and you do not give up the table unless u are ready to quit.use your style of interaction with them.If they threaten u and ask u to come out to the parking lot, immediately report about their threats towards u to the manager of pool room. The owner of the room will ban those guys coming back to his room.Be carefull and do not get physically hurt by these people.
IN MY CASE: I was always a night mare to these guys.I remind them of the guy their mama warned about.

ONE ANECDOTE:Around 20 years ago when RACK in Detroit was THE PLACEto play ,Mike Massey was playing $1000.00 on one particular table ,another player approaches this 6 feet 5 inches tall Mike and asked him to leave the table because he was going to play for higher stakes( $ 5000.00 a set) and as I was told Mike Masey vacated the table.

DO NOT LET THESE BULLIES GET AWAY WITH THEIR INTIMIDATION TACTICS.

On a similar note, I have vacated a table on more than one occasion for guys matching up that want to play on the nice tight table I was practicing on. Not out of fear, i've been in thier position before (wanting the best table in the corner with no one next to you), and I was just practicing. Once they picked up my time:)...........G

Infact u bullied them by making them pay your time,LOL.Just kidding..

my .02 cents

I have never experienced a bully for a table. I have given up a table
for a serious money game before. I have obtained a table before from
someone just fooling around, either by paying for the time, and/or by
buying them a round of drinks. Most people that have been around Pool
for a length of time, and know who the 'players' are will usually move to
another table for you. Sometimes, like in one place, money players prefer
not to play close to where Karaoke is going on. Nothing like some off tune
yokel singing to ruin your shot.... I say that seriously, those people should
be forced to listen to a recording of themselves before getting up and singing.

On another note, 1 thing that irritates me is the bravado of several people
to challenge a 9 ball challenge table to play for NOTHING, when they have
been there watching players play for $10 or $20 a game, and there are usually 3-4 players that are in the money challenge game. Used to be that
if you weren't willing to play for table stakes, you did not put your quarters
up to challenge. It is EXTREMELY rude to interrupt the flow of a challenge
money game going on, and besides the ones that want to play for free
never can shoot with a hoot anyway. I was playing on the 9 ball table
one evening for $10 a game with 4 other guys, and had held the table for
a few games, when this girl puts her quarters in, and I tell her we are playing
for $10 a game. She says, "oh, I just want to play for free". So I tell her,
"Listen, we have a money game going on, and I will play you for either
money or sex, and you get to chose which one." She quietly removed
her quarters and went and sat down like she should have to begin with.

I think it all depends on how they ask.

If they came up and said, "hey' we need this table and you gotta move", there might be a problem.

But if they came up and asked nicely, and there's another table I can use, I would have no problem.

That is too funny! :D I have had someone do the same thing, but never would have thought of that ultimatum!

I had some bullies try to move me off a table once. They quoted that the owner set aside that table for gambling. I replied, "I've got squatters rights here." I continued to practice and they pressed me further getting closer and louder. I told them get the owner. They got thier buddy instead who was the only one working taking money for time on the tables. (The owner was not present.) He told me to get off the table and to play on another that had the same attributes as the one I was on. I turned to the bullies and said, "There you go, play on that table it's the same."

I didnt think of having them pay for my time. The next thing that happens one of them lays his stick on the table. I said to the working stiff, "What do I owe?" He quoted me a price less than what I had on the table. I paid and left. It stuck in my crawl for sometime. Never liked those guys since.

I sorta got retribution though in a tournament later knocking them both into the losers bracket. One of them on the very table in question.

I went through a lot of shit from the players in the area that I grew up in... they talked so bad about me... to hear it told, I had slept with every pool player w/in a 100 mile radius. This of course wasn't the case. I just happend to be a skinny, attractive, single 18 yr old that wouldn't give them the time of day. (I still won't give them the time of day but I'm not a skinny attractive 18 yr old anymore so I doubt I would have that problem today :p ). As bad as they talked about me... they were always nice to my face. The one's that weren't that nice learned that I didn't take any shit from anyone. I couldn't stop their gossip when I wasn't there but they damn sure weren't going to talk down to me or treat me badly to my face. If I liked the player & we were friends I gave up the table. All others paid time or I got a jelly roll from the winner of the match. ;)

Years ago the pool hall was rented out one afternoon for a private party. I forgot and went anyway. when I got there I remembered about the party and went across the street to waste a couple of hours in a red neck bar. The place was pretty much empty except for two guys playing pool on a bar box. I got a beer and walked back to them. When their game was over I ask “ are guys taking challengers?” One guy just stared at me with his best intimidating look but did not utter a word, I just said “ I guess that’s a no” and turned my back to walk away. I took a few steps and the guy says “it’s $20 a game here”. I turned around and to his surprise I said “ that’s cool with me” I went over racked the balls and won 4 or 5 games and they quit. His attempt at bullying me pretty much backfired on him. It actually felt pretty good.

Hi,
That is pure criminal behavior and u should have complained to the police and should have implicated the owner of the room also.If I were victimised like that I will make a sincere attempt to get the place shut down by legal methods.

A friend of mine had a similar experience. He was out for a few games one evening after his shift at the firehall, and a couple of guys told, not asked him to move, that this was a "money game only" table, and they wanted to play. He refused, and one of the guy asked him how he would like his sticks broken.
He simply pulled out his badge, and they guys very sheepishly left, white-faced.
They got a look at the badge, figured he was a cop, and bailed. :D

Hi,
That was a criminal behavior and he should have arrested them.He also should have implicated the owner of the room for promoting criminal behaviors.

I spoke with the owner about a month later about the incident. He gave me his card. He told me to call him on his cell phone if it ever happened again. The working stiff around that time frame was no longer working there. My understanding was other events happened as well.

The two bullies are still hanging around at this and other places. But they don't give me any guff or anyone else that I've seen. Does it still happen? I don't know, but the bullies are once shady always shady in my book. They really don't speak to me. They just nod and say, "Hey."

Wide birth given I guess.

Slow down, Tango. Firemen don't arrest people.

guys,u should not leave the table.those criminals do not own the table. It is u who rented it.If they attack u call 911 and file the complaint against the owner also in addition to those criminals.

Of course they are criminals if they attack you, but what if they dont? And what if they ask you really politely, i.e. "Pardon me kind sir, but this gentleman and myself have agreed that we would only like to play each other for $10,000 on this particular table. Would you mind letting us use it, and we will pay your table time for you?" :D

TAP TAP, that's what I do too.

Ive never had this happen to me, although I have ask (very nicely) for a table a time or two... If I were playing, 5G a set and somone ask me for the table to play for 10g, I would step aside.....no questions ask.. because of this I have been able to aquire the snooker table for some serious 9 ball matches... lol now thats a game!

Speaking of advice...a friend of mine got his face busted in with a 2 x 4 as he came out of a bar one night in Louisville after playing a couple of guys for a couple bucks. He's never been the same mentally since. It ain't worth it.
