I hate to say this, but you sound like my dad back in the 60s saying "those damn hippy bellbottom pants long haired freaks"

I like to think that all the veterans fought for the right for the younger generation to rebel and start their own styles and thoughts for the future.

As much as I dislike the nevuo clothing style, I will defend their right to wear it and yours to complain about it.

Is this my buddy Tom speaking? I can't believe you're coming up with this argument! Listen my friend, I fought in 'Nam and I absolutely believe that we should continue to have the freedoms in this country that we have. However, most places I've been to have this little sign posted that says, "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone". The reason for that is that the business owner has rights too. If that owner starts losing money, they have a right to adjust their business in order to increase profits, within the framework of the law of course.

Both the place I played at in SC & TX ran into these issues. One place had a night club area with a dance floor... they changed their format to country music & that solved the problem. The other place was strictly a pool room & they enforced a dress code. No plain white t-shirts, do rags or anything else gang related. (that's what the gang members were wearing then). Even with the dress code, you're still going to get the "customers" that you don't want. Changing the music to country did wonders for the other place.

Its not very sad when there is another pool hall the play at always. maybe like 10 minute or 40 minute more drive but for pool I can walk from my house never had to drive. if I had to drive there to play I wood but since I dont not I am very fortunate

If I enforced a dress code in Santa Cruz, Ca. I would be run out of town. This is the melting pot of diversity. If you don't like dropping pants, don't look. I hate it too but sometimes you have to put up with it. It is pretty much going out of style now anyway for a 10 year hiatus. lol. I think your avatar should be subject to a dress code. What u think bout that. Bet you wouldn't like that.

About ten years ago in Vegas, I met a guy who ran a pool hall in LA and he said he would tell the gang members, "You've got your hood out there on the street and this is my hood. I'll respect yours and you respect mine. No hats on backward, no colors, and no trouble. Play all you want anytime, but don't start trouble." He said he'd have gangsters playing next to families with no trouble.

A nice pool room in my town decided to move to another location due to space and parking issues. They moved to a re-developing neighborhood, but unfortunately this area is still the "Hood". The new room is beautiful, but last night it was apparent what kind of clientele will be hanging out there. In order to satisfy local residents, they don't allow crooked hats or baggy pants but this seems impossible to control. They also raised their price of Henessee to $7/shot and rap music costs $2 to download to the jukebox. I feel sorry for the employees because a couple of them have already been threatened and 5 cue balls have been stolen. Combining gangsters, alcohol and gambling, a shoot-out is imminent. Moving to this location was probably the worst business decision I've ever seen. Say goodbye to another pool hall which once had the best weekly tournaments in town.

I'll tell you it is a crying shame! That is the kiss of death for a poolroom, I know from personal experience with The Legendary Black Bart (Bob O.) he had a room in Columbia, SC. and it went down because of the neighborhood changing to the "hood". I worked there during the transition and I tried every move in the book and it did not work due to employees not listening to my instructions.

Tell the owner to find the richest thugs in tha hood and sell it to them pronto!

The country music and classic rock juke box helped us a lot also. I agree with a dress code also. I wish the guys that own our pool here would have stuck to the dress code they had when the opened. A business owner should have the right to target any deomographic they like as long as they are within the law. Nice resturants do it all the time. I can understand the different points of view being expressed. Sure people have the right to dress and express themselves but if I have a business and the people with bagging pants and white t-shirts are the ones costing me money then they have to go. If it were people wearing bowties that caused trouble then it would be them. It doesn't come down to identifying clothes. What it comes down to is identifying trouble regardless of what trouble wears and what music it likes.

I like the Country music idea because I overheard one of them say "Someone play some music and none of that Country $hit". They hired an off duty officer which baffles me the most. It doesn't make sense to move to a place where an armed officer is necessary! Also, the owners daughter manages the place (white girl, big butt), which is asking for trouble.

to maintain control of an establishment, Id thank that officer, that is much more protection than any camera, or country music... My student, he is one of those baggie pants people, and the kid has a heart of gold.... If I judged him by his clothes, I would have missed out on a vary talented player... There are good and bad in all people, in all walks of life, alot of these kids just need a mentor, and some authority governing thier behavior...


If the owner lets things get out of hand, he has lost respect, and will not get any... so the armed officer may prove to be a very wise decision... I like country music, George straight, travis tritt, garth brooks, as well as classical, and classic rock.... Im not into rap but I respect those who do..
