Pool halls and weekly tournaments in Winston Salem NC?

Can anyone tell me if there is only 1 decent pool room (Break Time Billiards) in Winston Salem?

I am seriously thinking about relocating to Winston Salem NC, but I am worried that break time Billiards is that only pool room (with decent tables) in the city.

I do not drive, and would be riding public transit (the city bus) to get to places that I want or need to go to, and I would not be able to get to Break Time Billiards, because the bus does not go anywhere near that location.

I see that the other break time Billiards (on Google maps) is closed, and the only other pool hall that someone on here mentioned has also gone out of business.

So, are there any other nice places to shoot at (with hourly rates), and any bars that you know of that have nice tables, and maybe hold weekly tournaments?

Thanks a lot for any info you can think of about the Winston Salem pool scene.

If you rely on public transportation and want to play pool,Denver, Co. is the place for you !!!

I know someone just opened up new room in the Salem area, i cant remember the name but i know its big and full of diamond tables. if someone could help out the name part?

Chandleys in Statesville NC

Chandleys but that's in Statesville 45 min from Winston Salem.

Break Time, Scotty Bs and the place off of Peters Creek, the place off Peters Creek has changed names but the tables are bad...and are it in Winston Salem.

If I were moving and planning on using public transportation to do the pool thing sadly Winston Salem would not be my choice but perhaps Greensboro would.

Greensboro you have Gate City...great room, Breakers...new room but old crowd, Jakes...college crowd plenty of specials and Shooters on High Point Rd., there are a few places in High Point right beside Gboro, other places so you have some variety. I don't expect Gate City to close any time soon, the owner is on it, Jakes will likely always be there and there is one more I cant remember but its more bar than pool room. I know there is one or two more of what I call lesser rooms but pool is played in Greensboro and possibly Charlotte you could likely get public transportation.

I have actually been thinking about Fort Collins CO for years (very beautiful scenery). Just worried about rent prices, and pool rates (both would be very high, I imagine).

Thanks a lot for the info. Yeah, Greensboro and Charlotte are much better for public transit, but I am just worried about crime (both cities have high crime rates).

Move to Raleigh. We have lots of pool halls and I prefer living here over Charlotte. Smaller town feel with everything you could ever want to do. 2 hours to the beach and 3-4 to the mountains.

I lived in Chapel Hill for a few years (2002 to 2004 ish), and I visited Raleigh several times (just to walk around down town). All I can remember is how ugly it looked there (maybe I was in a bad part of town). I remember seeing several bail bonds places around, and the area I was in just gave me the creeps.

I always regret not visiting Brass Tap billiards, and maybe having a chance to meet Mike Coltrain.

Raleigh NC is a great city...lots of pool and The Brass Tap is a awesome place. Tony Coates is the owner...he's good people...and there are some PLAYERS in that town.

Break Time in Winston-Salem is a well-run room. Very clean, good crowd and 15 9-foot diamond tables. There are weekly in-house leagues (9-ball & 8-ball) but not really any tournaments. I’m surprised to hear there are no buses going by there as it’s in a very busy area of the city. I’d recommend checking in to that a little more to make sure you have the correct information. There are plenty of apartment complexes around that area. Winston is a nice city as is Greensboro, Raleigh, and Charlotte. Break Time’s website is breaktimesports.com. Send a PM to me if you’d like to discuss the room and city further. Happy to help in any way that I can.....David B.

Yeah, the city bus in Winston Salem is horrible. I love the fact that there is a regional transit system though. I can get to all of the cities around there (Greensboro, Raleigh , chapel hill, Durham , and many of the smaller towns too). It is a great regional transit, but kind of expensive to ride it. Thanks for the info.

I have to agree with Tarheel. I know Ive seen city buses on Jonestown Rd because the main shopping mecca in Winston Salem is a mile from BreakTime. You might have some old info or something Id call someone if that's the deal breaker on Winston Salem. As for places to live Winston Salem would be my choice over Gboro or Charlotte anyday.

Thanks to everyone for all of the helpful info, and recommendations. I imagine that NC is one of the best states in the country for pool players.

If Raleigh gave you a bad impression, you were most definitely on the wrong side of town. It's a VERY clean city overall.

The Cary Area of Raleigh

Mark is right there is some good areas to Raleigh and a lot of rooms in those areas. Overall for pool room saturation and living probably Raleigh would have the overall highest quality of both. Ive been there and seen it so take it for what its worth. I don't know the quality of the public transportation.

I wonder if Allison Fisher still lives in NC. Does she play at any of the pool rooms there? I think I remember hearing somewhere that she lives in Cary (my memory might be wrong).
