Pool Halls in Cedar Falls/Waterloo?

Hey guys,

I've seen posts by a few folks from Iowa in the forums and was just wondering whether or not any of you knew of any good places to shoot pool up there because I'll be working there for two weeks at the end of October - first week of November. Since I'll be traveling solo this time I'll be looking for activities at night besides sitting in the hotel bar.

I've seen online where there are two places called Break Room Billiards and BJ's Bar and Billiards.

Can anyone offer suggestions on these two or any other places that might be of interest? I'm not even sure yet if I'll try and bring cues but if I do I'll definitely want to play.

Thanks for any advice!

The Break Room will have league on the small tables most nights of the week. They have 7 9' GCs, but not much chance of gambling on those. Unless you like 1pkt, then you might be able to drum something up on the big table.

After league, if you go on the right night when the right players are there you might be able to get a game.

BJs has 4 Valley bar boxes. I haven't been there in awhile, so don't know what condition they are in lately. If you're looking for a game you might be able to get one with the owner, Little John.

The Jet Lounge has a nice new addition that houses 4 Valley bar boxes. They are starting Saturday tournaments on October 3rd - tourny starts at either noon or 1, tables are open, entry is $10 (or at least it was last year). I like this place for bar table play the best because there's a lot of room and plenty of seating. As far as gambling goes, sometimes its a possibility at the Jet.

Post again when you get here and we'll have some drinks and some games. :)

I don't really gamble, but if you would like to get together for a few racks let me know.

Your not too far of a drive (1.5 hr) from Des MOines and the BIG DOG! Friday night tournament (10 ball), Sunday night (9-ball)-- best tournaments in state arguably. Lots of play for little pay.

FWIW, :joyful:

Welcome to Iowa!!!!

There's a new pool hall in Cedar Rapids (45 min South on I380) called 2nd AVE CORNER POCKET. They have a Tuesday and Friday night 8-ball tourney every week. $100 added to both, race to 2. They have great food and a good atmosphere! If you're looking for a game that shouldn't be a problem either (nobody's looking to get rich....just a little action)

Look forward to possibly seeing you... Later, Scott

ps. what's your name?

Thanks for the replies; I'm not much of an action player anyway, and I do prefer 9' tables so that's good to know about Break Room.

I'll be out there starting Sunday the 25th, but will get in pretty late and will probably just be checking in to the hotel and sleeping since I'll still be on Eastern Time. But Monday thru Thursday for those next two weeks I'll be in town, so any weeknight tournaments would be fun, or just shooting with anyone for kicks.

My name is Brian, by the way.

I'll find this post again before I get up there and bump it to see what things are looking like.

Thanks again! :)

if your looking for "fun"......

downtown waterloo is a bar called "flirts". Not sure if there are any pool tables in the place, but you can definately get some drinks and have a good time in there! Seems like every year the IOMA state tourney is in waterloo, our pool team finds our way there and we usually have a blast.

Who plays one pocket in CF? I live in grinnell and will come play anyone from that town anytime they want.

I was thinking of Dave Wagner, the owner. However, we went over there tonight and confirmed a rumor that he had sold the place. So catching him there, although possible, is less likely now.

The new owner is putting in a full kitchen and taking out 3 of the GCs, so by the time the OP gets there they will be down to 4.
