Pool Halls in NYC

lol... "You talkin' to me???" ;) I wonder if the guy who started this thread has any idea where it went anymore. New Yorkers...

Probably doesn't even know that someday a real rain will come and wash this scum off the streets.

But what do I know? I can't sleep nights. I go anywhere ... Bronx, Brooklyn.
Well, OK, not da Bronx. :D

I think the best way to describe it is, there are some rooms that are very New York and others which aren't. Masters, Hall of Fame, Broadway (just to name a few) are rooms that are notorious for action. Now, depending on what you're looking for, this may be right up your alley. As stated earlier, you can find many of New York's top players at these rooms fiending for action but don't forget the shortstops as well. I think, if there's one characteristic that distinguishes New York from other places, it's its plethora of shortstops.

Amsterdam Billiards & Corner Billiards are also rooms that every player in the city sticks his/her head in from time to time. You almost have to. There, you'll also find some of New York's best players (not mentioned as yet, Steve Lipsky and Jonathan Smith @ABC). The underlying difference is that even though some great players are in the room nearly constantly, there is so much foot-traffic that you can play there unharrassed. You would never be approached for a game there.

Regardless where you go first, most of us will be happy to give directions to the others so all you need to do is find one. Enjoy yourself!

Depends on where you're staying. If you're in Manhattan, Corner Billiards or Amsterdam Billiards are usually frequented by top players. If you wanna take a cab ride or feel brave enough to take a train(without getting lost), take the E train to Master Billiards in Queens. Also, Jean Balukas usually plays in her own room on the last Thurs of the month. They have a tourney at Hall of Fame Billiards, on Ovington, in Brooklyn.

Have fun.

E train does not take you to Master Billiards, it's the 7 train...and then it's 1 block away from 40th Street, Lowery stop. I should now...I used to live 3 blocks away.

theres no action at hall of fame that i can remember.
