Pool Halls State by State

@Bluehammer, this guy was trying to put together some sort of location system to find pool halls in an area. There were a number of comments critical of his efforts.

You may want to skim the thread and see if it offers anything useful for you.

Lots of people have tried to do this, both with threads, and with websites and apps. It has proved difficult for all the obvious reasons. How should you define "pool hall"? It is hard to find all pool halls, even with Google searches and with other people's input. Even for the ones you do find, it is hard to determine if it meets your definition of pool hall (does it have enough tables that are of the right size etc), and even if you try calling them to confirm those details there is a good chance that the person on the phone doesn't have a clue about table sizes or types etc.

It would be hard enough to compile a complete and accurate list of pool rooms even if nothing ever changed, but then you have the additional problems of pool halls opening and closing all the time and you can never keep up. You also have the problem of pool halls removing tables or adding additional tables, or replacing table/s with some other different table type, any of which potentially changing whether it meets your "pool hall" definition.

Some searches will turn up some past threads on here. Here are some of the current websites that I am aware of that are attempting to keep some kind of list, but they are always various levels of incomplete, out of date, inaccurate, etc:

A big problem with creating a self registering system is that more often than not the staff of the places with tables have no idea that there are people out there that take pool anymore seriously than pinball or darts. It is different than listing walk-in health care clinics or movie theatres. You kind of need to research area yourself.

I can’t seem to find it if it’s on here. Is there a list of current pool halls state by state?
There are some already mentioned. Google often works. Here are several possible search terms, with some showing up more one-table bars and supply stores than others:

pool hall
billiard parlor
pool room
billiards

The organization that logically would maintain such a list is the BCA (not BCAPL/CSI). In fact they have a state-by-state room locator on their website but it appears to be broken. Some error message about "can't properly load map."

Hi, I was actually thinking that the pool league sights might have a list of places / bars / pool halls, where leagues are hosted. At least then, a person might know where serious players go to shoot pool, even if the place only has a few 7 foot bar tables. I feel kind of silly saying that, because what serious pool player would go to hang out at a dive bar, with a few valley bar tables, lol.

Not really, those that are truly serious don’t do this. It’s relegated to bottom feeders that while perhaps more skilled than their prey, are reticent to take a real game and that speaks volumes about them and their character.
