BIRMINGHAM

yes there are alot of leagues and there is some action here also just like most places. but the action is... different then everywhere else... thats all ill say about that so dont ask you'll just have to wait and see. there are plenty of leagues and things like that though. what part of florida are you from? i moved to bham from the pensacola/mobile area. let me know when you are going to be in town and ill tell you how to get to the poolrooms and where not to go. as far as cue repair there are already about 5 poeple that do that so i dont think there is much of a market left here. ANYWAY...what part of Florida are you from? and where did you play at? i might know you.

Ben, Walter Mims is the guy to contact about APA leagues. I'm from the Tuscaloosa area and play in some tournaments there. There are some excellent pool players around both places. I contacted Walt about playing some up there, but it was just a little too far for me to travel 2 nights a week. Nice guy however......League Phone is 205-733-0505 or email:
waltmims@bellsouth.net Hope this helps..........You like some more action...travel over to Fayette and you can get all you want at their local pool room...ask for Mike or Tommy........great guys and great old time type pool hall. Happy shooting, Mike

Hey thanks Maughmn and BHkid I will definitely check it out. One guy I e=mailed told me about Poppa's and said it was the better one to play at around B'ham. Just yesterday a friend from Marietta said he was there a month ago and that it sucked. He said that Pellham is the slums of Birmingham, any comments?

Thanks again, Ben

BIRMINGHAM

Poppa's is the place to play at around the area. it has the best tables and alot better atmosphere for playing pool. i dont know what your friend was saying when he said that pelham is the slums of birmingham but he is DEFINETLY wrong. pelham is not the richest area but its not the slums either. anyway maybe when your friend was down they were still doing repairs to poppa's cause it was hit by a tornado. (or some storm that ripped the roof off and ruined the walls.) but it is the best place in the bham metro area to play. i know because i am there almost every day of the week. i dont know what your playing speed is or anything but there are several teams out of poppa's and there are many decent players that hang out there so we can get you on a team if thats what your wanting.

B'ham

Kid,

Yes I will definitely want to be getting on a league, I am still active member although I haven't played the league here is 3 months. I am currently a sl 5 but I can play up to most 6's and 7's, I am just not always consistent. When I am playing full time I get better for sure. After we get settled I will be getting a table at home again to play and test the cues I make on. Ben

B-jammin, Where in NW FL are you from? My wife is currently living in Ft Walton Beach. We are moving to Ofallon IL this December.

Ben, the B Kid is right...If Pelham is the slums, I live in a sewer....I know that the APA plays in several areas of Pelham and also in Bessemer....I have played at InCahoots in Pelham....and the league plays there several nights a week...nice place, great food, and the people playing in there were super nice. My son plays in a place in Hueytown that he likes...I'll get the name and post it if you like. Mike

B'ham

Hey keep in mind I'm not the one that said that, my friend did. We will probably check out a lot of different areas from 20 to 30 minutes out of B'ham.

Theres alot that goes on poolwise within a couple of hours
from B'ham.
Both APA and not. Good people in the league there and
plenty of competition.

Poppas is okay. Its not the slums at all. Not Beverly Hills but
if your from NW fla you will be okay with it.

Been through there a couple of times, great town, lousy pool. You want to know what pool was like in the 50's, then go there, nothings changed.

try growing up in mobile and then moving to bham area. it is a huge culture shock. but things are changing actually.

I only drove thru B'ham once and from the outside it looked like an older city that "modern" architecture forgot. Nothing negative insinuated, either - just an observation.
