Pool in Searcy, AR

Hello Friends. Today is my first day in Searcy, Arkansas. My wife and I moved here today from Erwin, TN.

I'm not familiar with the city. Are there any pool halls? I've found one online called "Pasttime Billiards". Any more?

Also, I spent nearly every day at the Clinchfield Adult Center in Erwin, TN playing pool for 4 hours each morning. I'm wondering if there's a similar Senior Center down here that has a few tables where I can go each morning and play pool with the seniors. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

(In Erwin, my $20.00 a year membership dues permitted me endless time each day of the week on either of the two tables they have. I sure would like to find a place like that down here.):)
 
Look for Pop's in Judsonia, AR. It's just down the road from you.

Or you could come down to the North Little Rock/Conway area where I'm at.

I can steer you to 3 locations that have Diamond tables.

I drove all over Judsonia and I'll be darned if I can find "Pop's Billiard Hall" anywhere. Can't find anything online either. Where is it? (Thanks for any help).:smile:

I've learned this evening that "PastTime Billiards" in Searcy has been torn down - the building is gone and another building presently under construction (having nothing to do with billiards) has replaced it.

It's so sad to hear about another pool hall business shutting the doors.
 
Found some tables

Alright! I found a place to shoot billiards. The V.F.W. They've got three 7 foot Diamond coin-operated tables (.75 cents per game). They have a 9-Ball tourney each Wednesday evening and an 8-Ball one each Sunday afternoon. They open each morning at 10:00 a.m. and on Sundays, they open at noon.

"Pop's Place" was closed on a Friday night. Not sure if it was due to the holiday weekend or what.

Not much pool around Searcy

My son lives in Searcy and I visit him 2 or 3 times per year. Pastime Billiards is gone. But there is a place in Judsonia. To be honest it looked to be more of an arcade place for kids. But looking while driving by I recall maybe 4 or more tables. All I really know is where it's at as I haven't in been there.
Going north from Searcy on the main hwy take the 1st exit after crossing the Little Red River. That's CW Rd aka Hwy 385, turn right and stay on 385 through the signal light at hwy 367. Continue into the town of Judsonia, maybe a little over 2 miles. Turn left (North) on Van Buren, it's the main north/south road going thru town, the pool hall will on your left a few blocks up the road. If you get to a big church you've gone to far. Businesses tend to come and go in this area quite rapidly and it's been nearly a year since I've been there so maybe it's there or maybe not, but give it a shot.
Unfortunately if your looking for full size tables to play on you'll have to drive some to find any. Or buy one of your own.

Anyone know of any pool halls in Texarkana? After a lot of time on the computer I could find is some vacant buildings and a couple of restaurants or bars which might have one or two bar tables each.

If there is a Junior College nearby it might be worth checking out their student union recreation area. Back long ago we had several big tables in Fort Worth, and it was worth taking one $30 non-credit community class to get a student ID allowing me to play.

Next week I plan to check out the JC in Paris TX, and maybe even further away in Commerce, since there are no pool halls anywhere around here.

As you mentioned, the military and fraternal and social organizations with their own buildings often have a pool table or two, maybe just bar tables, but better than nothing. Those groups usually have a great willingness to accept new members at modest dues (in my experience, it helps to be white as far as membership goes, unfortunately).
 
Been to Pop's Place

Well, I got to play pool at "Pop's Place" today. He's a really friendly guy and there were some nice friendly fellows in there playing pool when I got there. I stayed about two hours and enjoyed the time a lot. He only charged us (4 of us) five bucks for the time we spent there....that's five bucks total!

One Pocket is what the guys play here a lot, although they have 8 & 9-Ball tourneys every Tuesday and Thursday.

The tables (5) are 8-footers and there's also a (1) Snooker table. (I've never played Snooker)

When I visit my son there next time I'll have to check Pops out. I was told they only had bar boxes and (I Hope I don't offend anyone) I'm just not interested in playing on a bar box. So never checked it out. Pastime Billiards was open then and they had 8 footers. I'd rather play on a 9 footer but 8 footers will do. And one pocket will really do. My favorite pass time.

Be sure to check Pop's Hideaway out. They're all 8-footers except the snooker table which is a 10-footer. Pop's is a really kind gentleman and so are the rest of the men who play here. I feel right at home among these fellows.
 
Since the time I created this post, the place has changed hands. The new owner is a nice gentleman named Ben Hensley. He and his wife, Debbie and their son, Thomas do a wonderful job running the joint. They have a hair salon next door that Debbie runs and Ben and Thomas run the pool side of the building.

There's a 9-foot table, four 8-foot tables and a ten foot snooker table. There are snacks, pizza, corn dogs, cans and bottles of soft drinks and he has a lot of cue sticks for sale.

It's a nice family-oriented business just like the previous owner (Revel "Pops" Moore) ran. I enjoy going there very often. Cheap, good tables, good people, fun!
