Pool in the future, where will it be.

I just want to remind you, you're asking a bunch of pool players this question. I say yes, pool is the answer!

I am a pool player too... but that doesn't mean I automatically think that Pool is the answer to all the world's problems.

Well, we only get to be children once so it's hard to compare my childhood to the modern day childhood. When I was a kid, all my friends would do is stay home and watch MTV all day and get stoned. Now kids play video games all day and get stoned. They're still gonna get the munchies and get fat. Does it matter if it's Bon Jovi in the background or Guitar Hero? Maybe pool can only be fashionable every 20 years or so.

I see your point... well said. At least on the bright side; If it is every twenty years we should be getting close again, right?

Yes, pool players can barely feed themselves so I don't think they're going to solve world hunger.

I would think the opposite is true. More fathers take their sons to poolhalls now than when I was a kid.

At what age though. Most are bars with tables. I play with my son (8) about every other weekend but I need to drive an hour to get to the place. The only other room that I would be OK with bringing my son in is even a longer drive.

One of my "if I win the lottery" ideas is to get some available building in my town and convert it into a YMCA type deal. Some pool tables, board games, couple of Movie rooms. Make it free or charge a small membership fee so they feel like they are earning something instead of things being given to them. Not a lot of places younger kids can head to these days, aside from hanging out at a Mall or milling about outside. And going to a Mall for entertaiment several times a week will just drive up the stupidity level.

Pro pool here in the US will be the same as it is now or less in the future....

Most pool rooms have become too expensive to play in, example a new room opened up in NE Ohio and the rates are $8.00 an hour, most rates ($5 or more) are more expensive than gas, so where is the moto-vation to drive to a pool room to play?

Watching pool on tv brings no excitement (actually it is boring to watch -watching live is a different story) and you have to spend years getting good at it if you want to compete with the top players to make any money at it.

People either want something exciting to watch or if they are going to attempt to try and play it, be able to excel at it (to an enjoyable level) in a short period of time. Pool has too many complexities, just watch it on tv and listen to the commentators!
