POOL on ESPN

Watched a match yesterday and my wife asked me why I had my thumbs stuck in my ears. Billiards announcing on TV is just bad. Always has been and probably always will be. The camera work has typically been shoddy in the past, but seems to be getting better.

Oh, yeah! The girls were cute! That was the best part of the show! One of the girls kept smiling, then making a sexy mouth and moving her head slightly from side to side, as if she was on a hot fasion shoot. Cracked me UP! She had no clue about what she was doing, but she tried!

I expected more from the pro-player announcers. Charlie et al should be explaining more of the strategy behind the game instead of just sighing when they make a mistake.

And they never EVER tell what kind of cue each player is using.

ooppss ... yeah I guess I re hatched a post that was already going on. My bad. well it was not just this past upa .. its EVERY PAINFUL SHOW where someone who has no idea how to play pool is telling everyone whats going on. Atleast Ewa knows about pool and has done it and is usually right on it as far as picking the shots and explaining the game and whats up. Im so tired of hearing over and over by the other guy how " BOY, THEY REALLY MADE A STATEMENT IN THAT OPENING RACK ... THEY ARE LETTING So&SO KNOW they came to win ( DUH ) like when has Allison or Efren or anyone came to just dog it. I mean you could say " SHE MADE A STATEMENT BY GETTING OUT OF LINE - SHE IS REALLY LETTING THE OTHER PLAYER KNOW THAT SHE IS HERE TO DOG IT. Im just having a FLUSTERAITING day so im just going off. TILT .... see you all later... Im going to play in a tournament tonight and im gonna make a statement with my opening rack ... CHA-CING

That would be nice. It would be even nicer if we knew exactly what kind of modifications or special requests were added to the cue. Allison Fisher plays with that ugly white Cuetec, but that's gotta be specially-made for her. It must play much better than standard Cuetecs.

Considering Cuetec Cues is a sponser, do you really think they would divulge that information? Of course her cue is every bit as good as the standard Cuetecs. ;)

Aye, there's the rub.

Speaking of Cuetec cues................

I would be pissed if I were them as they were the sponsor of the event and didn't get any recognition at all. A

lmost every single camera angle and shot only showed the Predator banners hanging around the venue, not the Cuetec banners.

WTF????

Yeah for real - you know .. serious .. Allison Fisher is honestly one of my favorite players and I go head to head with some of my buddies about her ability as far as talent goes and LORD KNOWS I dont want to get that going on here.. but you know that cue is so NASTY. She does have a wood shaft and I would guess its the new "wood" shafts they have. I dont know but Id love to check it out in person. She is just too talented to play with a cue that has hologram stickers on it. Yeah and it would be nice to know what kind of work HONESTLY is put into peoples cues.

I love watching Allison play. Her mechanics are just so spot-on perfect - it's unbelievable. They showed an overhead shot of her on ESPN Classic today, and the arm-cue alignment was like a photo out of a textbook.

This weekend I watched the Accu-Stats DVD of Efren Reyes and Gabe Owen from the most recent U.S. Open.

Scott Smith is introducing the players, highlighting their accomplishments, sponsors, etc.

After he is done Efren reminds him that he is also sponsored by Jack Justis cases. Scott made the correction and on they went to the lag.

What struck me most about this was how professional Efren was in bringing up to Scott that he had forgotten to mention Justis Cases. I thought that was a classy thing for Efren to do and something most players wouldn't even bother to correct right before a match.
