Would you rather be the number 1 ranked pool player for up to a decade and then fall back into the pack? or the 25th ranked golfer and always be in the pack for 30ish years? I ask this after seeing an article at www.worldpoolchampionship.com stating that Cory Deuel spends more time with his golf game then on his pool game. I have seen similiar comments regarding other topped ranked pool players.

you can be idealistic and say it's best to be the best. or be realistic and be financially pretty well of. what does the #25-30 golfer make per year?

i don't think the #1 pool player is ever hurting financially, and you can always parlay that status into something rewarding, if you're smart. being #25 in golf pretty much means obscurity. and if you're the best in pool AND from another country, like say,,,oh,,,,,asia or the phillipines, that's money in the bank.

i think people in the competitive arena would opt for being #1, because of their competitive drive.

Personally, I'd take the status! It's hard work to be #1, and it's also hard to be #'s 25-30 as well. By reaching #1, I would feel like I accomplished something from the heart, not because of the thickness that my wallet will get!
Strive to be the best because you want to, not because you
have to!

Any athlete that could play himself into the top 25 in the world at golf has a realistic chance to be the best pool player in the world given the desire and a few years practice.

Any golfer ranked 25 would not be obscure by any means, at least to persons who even remotely follow golf. Also if someone was good enough to get to 25 why couldn't they get farther? It is all mental at that level. Brittish open winner was ranked 390 approx. before the event, now up to 36 and a million plus richer for a long weekend of work, and a lifetime of practice of course. Two different leagues obviously, monetarily, as well as degree of difficulty. To advance to a higher level at golf is way harder that at pool, not saying pool is easy only that golf is extremely hard with numerous variables to contemplate and master. Still ,idealogically I might choose # 1 at pool...........

It seems like there are several top pool players that like to play golf. Look what happened to Kim Davenport on the driving range. I would much rather be the #1 pool player for a decade simply because I love the game of pool. I could never get enthused about golf. I tried playing it as a young man and just didn't like it. You have to worry too much about the weather. You can't play anytime you want. You use a different club for different strokes. No two courses are the same.

There's just something about the sweet sound of a beautiful pool stroke that is intoxicating for me. Of course if you want to make money, being 25th at golf is the way to go. Unfortunately, there just isn't a lot of money in the game of pool, even at #1 for ten years.

Too bad you'll never have the chance to experience the sights and sounds of golf also. They too are intoxicating. The crack of the ball coming off the head of a driver or iron, seeing it take off like it just came out of a rocket launcher, reaching it's apex and just hanging against a beautiful bright blue sky, and falling to earth perfectly placed from the way you aimed it and planned everything out. Your clothes smell as fresh as all outdoors instead of cigarette smoke, the sun heats you and makes you feel as young as a kid, and your skin takes on a gorgeous golden tan that only comes from being out with mother nature. They're both addictive games and atmospheres and there's nothing like having the best of both worlds along with the talent to play each
proficiently.

It depends what is important to you...money, being happy, etc.

If your about the money golf would be the obvious choice, I would rather be happy and be the #1 pool player, you would still have a pretty impressive income, it totally depends on the person though.
