It seems to me that many pros are very careful about what they say in public, especially about billiard products.

I guess this is because some of the manufacturers are their sponsors (directly or indirectly), or could be their sponsors in the future?

What would be good advice to follow so far as not "stepping on toes", etc.?

Are there things you could say or do which could ruin your chances of being a pro?

Are there things you could say or do which would help your chances of being a pro?

well, i'm sure there are things that you could do or say to help of hurt your chances of getting a sponsor.

but as far as being a pro..........you either win or you lose......you can either play or you can't.........

Look at Earl Strickland. Whether he is nice or not doesnt matter, i personally am a fan. Lots of the things he has done would get someone kicked out of tournaments (Sorry Earl if your reading this, i don't have a bad opinion of you). Earl does lots of thing that are BAD. Whether they are justified or not doesnt matter. But do you think with his skill that he could do anything to get Black listed and not be able to play? What about John McEnroe, all the shit he did, did he get banned from tennis? It may be better for you to do some things and not others, but the bottom line is, if you beat everyone and stand alone at the end of the tournament, it doesnt matter how you act, if your skill comes through. Right now a professional player just means that you earn your living playing pool, and if you are good enough to do this, then YOU ARE A PRO and noone can take that from you.

All in all I think it boils down to can you sell the product? If you are a nobody and you suck, you probably won't get much. If you sell yourself well you may get alot...IF you can play. If you bad mouth something then you probably don't like that product so why would you want to market it anyway??? Just remember nothing sells like sex and controversy. :p
