pool pros vs golf pros

Just a thought. Since everyone wants to see pool get more publicity as a real sport, as golf does, how about pool players & golf players get together and play a pool tournament, maybe teams made up of players from pool & golf on a team, playing another similar team, top make it more even. Then after playing pool, the same kind of teams made up of both types of players then get together and play golf tournament. (if not golf players, maybe baseball, etc)
This might be interesting especially if it were for a fundraiser of somekind, playing for a good cause. Could probably get alot of advertising sponsors, etc.
Kind of like musicians from all different catergories get together on fundraisers, Katrina, 9-11, the Tsunamis, etc.
Since KT is also in the golf business, maybe he could put something like this together someday.
Do you think something like this would draw much interest from both sports fan bases?

Gr8 idea!!! :) Tying these two sports together via a fund raising effort would be wonderful, and a big plus for pool because wherever Woods, Sorenstam, and now Wie, goes people would surely follow. Problem is I don't think the WPBA or the men are anywhere near as recognizeable as the Pro golfers. It'd be worth a try and getting more exposure for pool doing a fund raising event like this couldn't hurt.

"They" tried something like this years ago with the NFL and Fmr. Pro Baseball player Kirby Puckett had a yearly fundraising event... I don't think either did much to attract sponsors or the mainstream audience to pool. :( Golf and Pool are more closely related than football/baseball and that might make a difference. It mainly depends on how well organized it is, and getting the high profile golfers and sponsors to do it.

"K.T." is still a big question mark, and we'll have to see where the IPT ends up in a few mo's. I just hope he isn't another Don Mackey!!!  "Blackjack" also had valid arguments against the IPT which I support.

Whilst it would certainly benefit the Pool world, what's in it for the Golf world? Would they even want to be associated with Pool? Seems to me they make out just fine in charitable Pro-Am events already that have their pick from a regular cadre of celebrity Golf players.

Not much at this point probably....

Pool and Golf are associated already...There are country clubs that have pool tables in the club house, and Golf and Pool have always been "compaired".

It may never happen at this point, but there was/is a lot of dead time on the Golf Channel...It would have been nice to have that channel started as the Golf & Pool Channel...I think it would have been a very good fit...

I would venture a guess that at least 9 out of 10 golfers that watch the Golf Channel know at least a little more than the average banger that plays pool ......and although they won't channel surf to find pool on TV, if they noticed it on the Golf Channel they would probably watch.

It would be nice to see a Pool Acadamy Live show on the Golf Channel...JMO

They used to to one in NY every year pool & golf. I think it was called the BC Open. Gary Pinkowski used to do it.

I just think it would be fun to watch something with the pro players mixing up with other sports, as well as possibly great publicity for the game. How about poker? Get those poker players on a pool table!

I think pool players should get together with Bowlers, Dart players and Card players. That way nobody ever has to leave the bowling alley/ bar!

I don't think you should stop at golf. Bring EVERYONE in from ALL sports and have a pool tournament which pits golfers against baseball players...against football players...against basketball players...against tennis players...etc., etc., to see who the best of the best is individually and by sport.

I think you have a lot of guys in each of those sports that can play decent pool due to the fact that they started playing early in life or now have pool tables in their homes and play regularly. Forget the other part of the competition where they play golf or anything else...many of them are just too clumsy and have terrible form/fundamentals and hand eye coordination to play golf very well. Besides, they have celebrity golf tournaments on TV and unless you want to see a bunch of hackers...who cares.

you could mix better sports than golf,,,,like basketball or football. they have more recognizable figures,,,,but it won't help. you can't FORCE people to like something they don't like.

I had just thought of when Garth Brooks practiced with the Kansas City Royals one spring, and I know there have been other publicity things like that, ....for fun, but also got alot of publicity. Oh, and there are things like charity golf tournaments, etc., where golfers & movie stars match up, etc.

Just a thought ...

Maybe a vehicle for this type of competition would be
a corporate competition. I used to compete for the company
I worked for in a corporate competition involving several
sports. Each company (and the Air Force and Firefighters
were considered companies for this purpose) had individuals
and teams of individual to participate in their behalf. It was
fun ... They had basketball, tennis, table tennis, softball,
and other sports. I played singles and doubles table tennis,
which I hadn't played for years and years, but I did play a lot
as a kid growing up, and took 2nd in the state once. It was
kind of like recreation center competitions only on an adult basis.

Does anyone know if there are any pro golfers that play pool well? We all know about the pool players that play golf well, but is there at least one golfer that can actually hold his own if he were to play a pro pool tournament? Just curious.

I don't know of anyone out on the golf tour that could even come close to holding his own in a pro pool tournament.

However, I do know that Tiger Woods has a pool table in his house and is a very avid pool player on his table. He's not the kind of guy that'll be found in a pool room because he'd never have a moments peace and be constantly hounded.

How good is he? Who knows...
