pool room closed - looking for alternatives- Boston MA

Northeast MA just north and west of Boston

I've been playing in a local league at the Corner Pocket in Waltham, MA for a number of years. I just got word that the place has closed it's doors permanently today. It was an in-house league that had singles one night and partners 8-ball another night. Good time with good people. Time marches on and I understand that the owner wants to move onto another more lucrative business proposal. Sad because the Corner Pocket had been there for over 30 years.

Anybody know of some other local options that I can pursue to keep playing n this area?

If you are in the age group, most senior centers have tables.

You might consider joining a Lodge (Elks, Moose, Eagles, American Legion, etc.). They always have at least one table. If there isn't already a league among them, it isn't hard to get one started.

Nothing that close anymore. It does hurt to see all the rooms closing down!

Mazin Shooni's new place in Malden is very nice:

Snooker's in Providence: 53 Ashburton St, Providence, RI 02904

There aren't any places close to me and I don't have the room for a table. I don't want to go to stinky smoke-filled lodges or shitty bars with shitty people. After many years, thinking about giving up the game :(

World Class closed last winter.

I haven't lived in North Boston for almost a year. I believe that Boston Billiards is still open in Nashua, NH. I don't know about the current quality of the tables. Some were in pretty bad shape (rails, cloth). But they kept some in good working order for the leagues.

As said, World Class closed, but Amazin is a great room, although I don't know about their leagues. I do think they are planning one if not already setup.

I play in the room in Ayer, there is a USAPL league of one sort of another almost daily. Great rules too, called shot 8 ball and 10 ball, and also 1-pocket and 14.1 leagues. 12" snooker table as well if you play that. If you are a B player, or at least a high C there is an invitation Master's league on Wed nights. I like to call it the "no A-hole" league as the main requirement of the Master's league is not so much skill in the game currenty but how you behave and willingness to study and improve.

Snookers is great room but a bit far. They will be hosting a Predator and a Joss tour stop soon if you play at that level or want to come watch.

Out of anything in the area Amazin has the best tables and it's pretty close to you.

Although for a great casual bar atmosphere with friendly folks, Billiards Cafe in Ayer is as good as any room in the country, although the tables are not in the top rank. Good clean cloth and balls, house cues are great, laytout is great, but many tables have issues with being level and how the pockets behave. I've shot balls center pocket at medium speed and have them bounce off the pockets back onto the table, or hit inside the facing and have it rattle instead of fall in.

Mazin's room has BCA 8 ball on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights at 7:00pm. Thursday night being the league night with the strongest players. I think Mazin is starting a in house 9 ball league on Monday nights very soon.

I'd love to play there more, except it's too far for me to play there often, and since it's a membership club room, paying the fee to play there once or twice a month is out for me.

I have gone to a tournament there once and plan to play in the doubles one coming up with my son.

Whoever ran the tournament at Amazin did a great job, the handicaps were as good as I have seen as far as fariness.
