I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I can't get the Search function work correctly. Anyway, I have a 9 foot table and a 6 foot light. How high should the light be from the table?
You need an 8 or 9 foot light for a 9 foot table. A 6 foot will always cast
shadows from the balls, or else be too high for proper lighting. I am not sure about a 9 foot table on height, but a light over a 7 foot table is 78"
high, I believe. (bottom of light would be about 72" from floor).
I believe the spec is 40" from the surface of the table to the bottom of the light. However, I don't like to hit the light with my cue stick or my head when racking, so I put mine a little higher. It's really up to you given the light that you have, its output, and where you feel comfortable having it.
Interesting - The BCA appear to have recently changed their specs, directing people to the WPA equipment specs. IIRC they used to recommend 36" above the bed of the table, which is how I set mine. However I felt it was kind of low and easy to hit your head on the corners, and restrictive if you need to jump or masse in the middle of the table.
