Pool Table Lighting

I play at a hall that has 9' tables and 8' lights with 4 flourescent bulbs.

I recently played at another hall with 9' tables and 8' lights with 8 flourescent bulbs. What a difference. The wider lighting took away almost all of the shadows and the only place the shadow took place was on the table at the bottom of the ball, not the side of the ball.

What do you guys play on and what type of lighting is used and do you see a difference from hall to hall?

I have a gold crown 4, and a gold crown 4 light. I think it has 8 4' tubes. It is about 40" above the table. It does a great job, no shadows.

it depends on the beam spread, with florcent tubes thats dependent on the fixture itself(my electritation taught me alot about this). The whole idea is to eliminate shadows and have the table bright enough to see the balls and rails clearly, not so bright it burns your eyes. The distance off the table is on Diamond Tables website for their light, I set it up exactly like they said to and its the triple nuts, also having a grid that hids the tubes from your eyes directly is important too so if you accidentally look at the light it dosent burn your eye, again Diamond figured that out, I have one of their old bIG wide lights not the new skinny one, its expensive but worth the $$$.
