possible rules for a new game

since all this talk has come up lately as to which game people like to watch, which game is more difficult, and which game would be a better representation for the sport/game, i've decided i'm going to invent a new game. or at least alter the rules of a game or several games to form one game that tries to cover all pocket billiard skills as well as maintaining an offensive form, so that it is attractive to the non pool playing viewer.

please also use this thread to post your own version of a game, or a game that you have invented.......who knows.......it could be the future of pool.

i don't have a title for this game yet (suggestions welcome) and i'm pretty much making this up as i go along, so i may edit it, and again suggestions or modifications are welcome.

15 balls racked in the traditional triangle shape. (8 ball rack, with the 8 in the middle)

the break is just like an 8 ball break. you make a ball on the break you continue shooting. making a ball on the break does not obligate you to high/low, it gives you the opportunity to shoot again with your choice.

now the difference in this and 8 ball is that you must pocket the balls in rotation. 1-7 then 8 or 9-15 then 8 to win the game. this is a called shot game.

a max of 2 safeties per player per game. (must be called) failure to call a safe is a foul. after suggestions, i'll decide whether maybe one of them could be a push out. (don't have to make a legal hit or contact a rail)

failure to make the intended shot in the intended pocket is a foul. (ball in hand anywhere)

now to make things difficult. 2 (or maybe 1 depending on feedback) of each players shots must be of a higher difficulty. (i.e. combo, carom, bank, or kick)

winner breaks

thats all i have for now. it incorporates as much as i could from different games without making it way to complicated and drawn out.

it is slightly geared to be offensive, and you have to make 2(or 1) difficult shot per rack. this gives the people watching the offense and the possibility for amazing shots(that are done on purpose). and also making it crucial that the player be on top of their game and focused to run out. i'm sure you would see less runs from the break, but when you did they would be spectacular.

well thats it, let me know what you think.

thanks

Sounds similar to Convergence 8-ball.

Personally, when I've seen those rules (in 7-ball is it?) I hate them both even for top pros. I prefer making the game more difficult as opposed to those 2 rules. Maybe I could live with the safety limit, but then there is the problem of judging what's a safety and what isn't. Top pros can miss awfully "good".

now to make things difficult. 2 (or maybe 1 depending on feedback) of each players shots must be of a higher difficulty. (i.e. combo, carom, bank, or kick)

Maybe it would work, something is needed to test the pros for sure.

well a "safe" would just be the ability to miss the shot without giving up ball in hand. this would give them 1 or 2 chances not to run out. after that they would have to run out, or hit his ball into the opponent to keep him from running out even though they would get ball in hand.

yes i took that from the "sudden death 7 ball" rules. i figured it was the only way to keep some games from running to long.
