Possibly moving South.

A buddy of mine and I are thinking about moving South in the coming months. Georgia and Florida are the states we are looking at. I have a couple questions that I'm sure someone here can answer for me.

A) What's the pool scene in both states like?
B) Out of the two, could either be considered better than the other?
C) Is there any perticular city in either state that we should look at a little more then the rest?
D) Outside of pool, which of the two states would be better for jobs, cost of living, and all the "important" stuff?

It really depends on where in Florida you'd move to. I'm not too sure how easy it is to find a job in Miami, but you'll sure as hell have a hard time finding an affordable place to live with real estate the way it is.

The pool scene down here is fantastic, though.

was there in january lot of players lots of cheap action hope your used to freeways that city is huge. you all from Wisconsin suggest CAROLINAS more players, leagues ACTION, in bars and poolrooms and the people are great wish Iwould of moved there 35 years ago.

In no particular order
Raleigh, NC - lots of league action and plenty of good tournaments
Atlanta, GA - Some of the best pool rooms I have ever been in.
Spring Hill, FL - Plenty of pros and lots of high level play on the FL pro tour.

Thanks for the opinions. After doing some talking and thinking with my buddy, we decided that Florida is the place. We're really looking at Jacksonvill for various reason, but we'd still like to hear what the pool scene is like there. Also, if anyone has some thoughts or opinions about the city itself, it would be greatly appreciated.

Home to Predator Products (314 shaft etc.)

Home to Dale Perry (custom cuemaker)

Home to many other pool rooms

Home to the Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville is the largest city in the USA (land mass)

Jacksonville has great weather, cheap cost of living and is a 2 to 3 hr drive from every Florida Pro Tour Event

Any questions? :)

Plugging for Orlando...

sprnva...you've chosen Florida as so many others have wisely done...imo you should consider Orlando...The City Beautiful is a great vacation destination and great place to live...it is more than Disney, Universal, and Sea World...and those attractions are nice to have practically in your back yard...

Orlando is centrally located in Florida and you can drive to either coast...or any pool room...and other destinations without much trouble...we have good choices for art and culture...but even though we have the Magic I wish we had a pro baseball team...still we are never far away from a minor league game...

Orlando is big enough to give you exciting lifestyle choices and small enough to find a quiet style of living...check it out...

I moved here from PA about 4 years ago. So if your moving here I'll share a few "interesting" things about south Georgia, or North Cuba....depending on where you go.

Palmetto bugs......sounds nice huh?......not.

hot n humid...I thought I knew...

Hurricaines....screw that, I"m not going there, no way to describe it.

Sharks....small ones mostly, but they like to bite!

did I say bugz, snakes, geckos, lizards, and bugz?

and its HOT....friggin hot....but

you have spring break, warm water, no snow, bikinis, old people, lots of bums cause it's warm, bike week, biketoberfest, BCR, turkey rod run, tax free days on all your hurricane supplies!:D

I guess you just have to experience it for yourself!:D

If you are looking for tournament play there is plenty in Florida. I know cause I run one of the largest tours in Florida and I am all over the state. The weather can get hot and humid but you don't notice it in a pool room. Shane Sinnott told you the basics about the Jacksonville area and it is a great area. If you don't want to live in the hussle and bussle of a big city the Georgia line is not very far and small towns are abundant. Practically anywhere you live in Florida you'll find a pool room. If you go to my website at www.kbpbilliardtour.com you can see where we are in Florida and get an idea of where the pool playing goes on. Florida is a good state for pool.

You forgot to mention it is close to St Augustine/Datona Beach.

Or you can go down state to the Tampa/Spring Hill Area. Plenty of nice pool halls there and home to Ray Martin, Robb Saez, Rodney Morris, Earl Strickland.
