Pre Jerry Franklin VS Post Jerry Franklin SW cue

50's, 60's, and before cues (even by Balabushka) are only good for the name behind the cue. None of those early cues play as well as even a new "Players" cue made today.
I disagree with ya....if your including Szamboti in your statement. And even the few Balabuskas I have gotten the opportunity to shoot with......I didn't like it my self, but I have like the Szambotis I have hit balls with. Not trying to start anything just sayin my opinion ruthless. Although for the money........Players are a nice cue, these days!

My I also interject that I never cared for the way the 2 Jerry Franklin southwest cue played that I shot.

They are an aquired hit. You either love them or hate them....no inbetweens....lol! The first one I hit with....the first wood that came to my mind was Tree! It felt soild as a tree, and sounded like it felt. I grew to like the hit.......but it felt like a weight was lifted off my game when I switched! I could draw my ball sooooooo much better, it seemed like a struggle with the SW.

I cannot find a number on the pin of my Southwest, he told me it was a '93, could it be older because there is no number on it? please advise, thanks

I agree, for a junk cue, I believe these cues are Lucasi rejects. they hit well for beginners. For other cheapo cues for bar use, I also really like the Competition cue with the brass insert, and steel joint. I found it for like 50 bucks a few years ago. Good starter cue. As far as S.W. cues. If so many people swear by the hit....It must hit great. Has anyone ever taken it apart for inspection of the design?I have never had the opportunity to hit with a S.W. I did shoot with a cognacenti on accident, Did not even know it was a good cue. I could not believe how the balls majically went into the pockets making the english work instead of going off course, ball after ball. I do like how S.W has the brass pin. Are they a heavy bulky cue?

I loved the way my SW hit. Along time ago we got a book from Kersenbrock that shows how he makes a cue. If I am not mistaken, SW is the same way. Also it was years ago....but a guy around here in FL X-Rayed a SW. And it was the same as what Kersenbrock did. They do somethings different than the usual way. I don't know how to decribe the hit............It is like a DONK! lol if that makes any sense. And just as many will swear against the hit as will swear for it! lol

They use Bondo to fill up the holes.:D
I've seen an x-ray of an SW. The stud and the step tenon between the forearm and the handle are pretty tight.
I've seen an x-ray of a Bender cue too. Benders are tight too.
