Predator Bk-2 Break Cue Questions ????

I recently had to change the tip on my Bk-2. My friend forgot about the carbon fiber pad that Predator uses and accidently removed it with the old tip. My question is does this pad really make a difference how the cue breaks and can the the cue be used without it or causing any damage to the ferrule ??? Also, could the fiber pad just be glued back on to the ferrule and another tip be applied to make it like new again.......

Those questions should be directed toward Predator. Besides the old tip was a special tip, maybe even proprietary.

Why did you remove the old tip? Was it phenolic or the super hard leather tip that you can order from Predator? (Might be a Tiger tip i'm not sure)

The tip was Phenolic the one that was original to the cue. However I think there is somebody on the site that can answer this without having to ask Predator. It's not that big of deal just wondering since I did not know for sure.
 
I am not sure about this but, I think somewhere I read that if you remove the pad and just install a new tip the shaft will splinter. I agree with JoeyA call Predator. I wold not risk ruining my shaft.
 
This is a quote from the Predator warranty card that I got with a new shaft I just got:

"Phenolic Tip Replacement: If you want to replace your phenolic tip on your BK2 break cue or your AIR jump cue, do not remove the black carbon fiber tip plate located under the brown phenolic tip or the strength of your shaft will be jeopardized and the warranty will be voided. Leave .020" of the brown phenolic before gluing on the replacement tip."
 
Unfortunately I think you're gonna have to contact Predator to see what to do to keep from voiding your warranty. If you don't care about the warranty I'd just have your friend or someone replace the carbon fiber pad. I have a few extra pads, I'll be glad to send you one or two, just pm me your address.
 
If you replaced it with a phenolic tip, there should be no problem. If you used a leather tip, then you will need the carbon pad. The carbon pad is to reinforce the wood ferrule with a leather tip.The wood ferrule is stronger with the carbon pad, but since the phenolic does not deform like leather it should be OK. I think your warranty is shot anyway.
If instructions come with the cue, usually it is a good idea to adhere to them.Predator and OB-1 etc all have there quirks.
