Predator Sneaky Pete

I have recently purchased a Predator cue. Then after looking through some of these threads, a lot of people are bashing the Predators. Myself, I think it plays very well. Don't know if it's just that someone purchased a cue and misused it or didn't take care of it. If there is bad craftsmanship in the Predators, I would like to hear some of you guys' comments on the cuemaker. Have heard nothing but good things about them here locally.

I own 2 Predators both are older(5/16 14 pin), SPJ and SPJW with a leather wrap. I love the hit of both. I now shoot with a Schon with a Predator 314 shaft. The hit is unbelievable.

I currently use a Schon CX61 with a 314 and a Z shaft (preferred over 314). I'm also considering getting one of the J.Pechauer SE-3 Predator cues -- I really like JP's cue making visual style (though I wish he'd use standard 5/16x14 SS joints).

Newer Predator cues have Uniloc joints. Based on what I've read, some mention that Uniloc joints just don't feel as "solid" as a 5/16x14 SS joint.

It's a preference kinda thing. I tried several Predator shafts on my "custom" cues and I just could not get used to the taper, the sound, or the feel of the shaft. Hard to describe, but I always preferred the custom cuemaker's shaft.
Maybe it's all of the glue in the shaft, but the feel is distinctly different from a traditional maple shaft.

Also, despite the low deflection, I found more spin was being placed on the cueball which I didn't like. That could just be the tip.....not sure.

That said, many pros play with and endorse Predator cues. AZ's Jenn Barretta for one.

Still......kudos to Predator for trying to build a better cue. Even if it's not for me.

Predator shafts are known to put more spin on the ball than a regular shaft. It takes a while to get use to the deflection and additional spin. It is the type of shaft, either you love it or hate it.

why do the first 3 inches of shafts get darker? it happens on all my shafts, its annoying.

I love the 314 cue so much i sold mine to "danny 314" .And he loves it a lot ..some day we can play danny boy ..O buy the way the old 314 play better then the new ones .But if u have a mezz cue with 314 on it, it play sweet. That is the only time i can play with a 314 ..So i might get a mezz q 314 .looking at the sneaky pete mezz ..

Did you ever find yourself miscueing on occasion with it as first? I have a tendency to try and overkill on some english that my Player hangs on to for dear life. Seldom miscue with it but finding I miscue a little with the 314. Guess I will have to just find that borderline and adjust until I can get a softer tip on it.

Because you're being sloppy when you chalk your cue.

When I miscued, it was do to the hard moori tip. I had to ruff the tip up everyday. I switched to a sniper tip and loved it. I shot with it one day and noticed a defect in the ferrel. When the ferrel was replaced, Predator put on a Lepro medium tip. It is not as good as the sniper but I dont miscue anymore.

The only bad thing i have heard about Predators, is if you get a ding in the shaft its a pain to get it out, and i heard from a friend, that he had one and gave it to a buddy and the shaft came apart, after having it put away for a while.

Now everyone has thier own opinion on what cues they like. I know several guys who swear by Schons, or predators, or Meucci, or whatever cue they are using.

I just recently bought a Predator SP and love the way it plays, no complaints from me.

Now as for the extra spin, i dont mind that because thats the way my Meucci Original played. But i do like the stiffer hit and having less shaft flex.
