Predator/Universal Smart Shaft on a Fury SP?

Hello,

I recently purchased a 20 oz. Fury Sneaky Pete cue. It's a beautiful cue and is balanced perfectly, but it has an incredibly high deflection which makes it difficult to play. I've been playing for nearly a year and I've been pretty good with house sticks, but with this cue I haven't been able to adjust to it. The hit is pretty soft and the deflection makes long shots and shots with the cue against the rail almost impossible.

I'm wondering if a Predator 314 or a Universal Smart Shaft would be a good idea for one of these cues. The joint is a radial pin, and I know that both manufacturers offer this option. Are there any concerns with picking one of these up? Would the hit become more solid and would the deflection become lower?

Thanks!

Alright, I'm reading a bit more about this.

I've found that I do play better and get less deflection when I'm down more and shooting slower and concentrating versus with the butt raise a bit more. This makes sense, as a raised butt would tend to put more angle on the stroke and cause a bit more deflection. For now, I'm going to focus on that and try to improve my game to make the stick work for me.

On another note, what impact would the ferrule/tip have on deflection? I've read that a heavier ferrule/tip would tend to increase deflection versus a lighter one (Predators). Maybe a better thing to try would be a different ferrule/tip combo?

Guess I'll be reading some more before I head out to shoot tonight...

Thanks for the input!

Anyone know how much it would cost to have a cue manufacturer match up one of those Predator 314 blanks to an already-made radial pin butt? Or would I be better off just getting a radial pin 314?
