Presenting myself (newcomer) + questions

Yes, I think you should buy your own cue. You will be happy you did. You might consider buying one and getting 2 different shafts- a 13mm for pool and an 11mm for snooker. Just a thought. Welcome to the forum.

All good advices except maybe suggesting using a lot of closed bridge on power shots. Wouldn't that disrupt his game being a former snooker player and all? Current world 9ball champ Wu along with top guys like Yang and Manalo use open bridge all the time even for power strokes...just food for thought.

Hi, this is Mikko from Finland and welcome aboard ! There are a few European posters here as well and we are definitely a minority here. :)

I think you should stick with your open bridge, I bet you'll have difficulties with the closed bridge, especially if you are used to playing snooker. Bigger balls in pool means that you just need to raise the level of your cue higher. You don't need a closed bridge, the one with index finger curled around the cue. And usually the first attempts to make a closed bridge will lead to shaky bridge and the cue doesn't lie properly in the bridge hand and makes the shooting wobbly.

As far with the cue goes, you should acquire a pool cue. Remember that the shaft/tip thickness doesn't have to be the usual 13mm, you can go with a thinner ferrule/tip size. I for instance play with a 12,5mm tip and believe me, the half a millimeter makes a difference. You could probably contact Markus Funk, a member in this forum as well. He's the dealer of EuroWest cues and could come up with a good deal on a cue. Probably around 200-300e range. His nick in here is i210mfu.

Don't worry about the grammar, plenty of ppl have difficulties with it, not only the ones with English as their second/third language ;)

Little off topic here, but are you also Solartje from the LLD101 forums? Just curious.

yes, actually i am :)... wow im famous all over the ocean  :D

timberly: greath. hadnt found it before. im still thinking of using my snooker bridge hand. ive tried all day practising with the pool bridge, but its not working, im not making straight forwar strokes, im not hitting the cb where i should.. i think after 10y its just a to big change. Ive mastered the art of having a stable bridge over the years, even if i have to bend over some balls, my bridge is really one thing im proud of. As there are pro players who use the same bridge, i guess its not something i NEED to improve to get alot better.

Kyle: hiya there. like said before , ill prolly just raise the knockels abit more, by making a more reversed U form with the hand. seemed to work well in the last ranking, so ill continue with that. thx for the other reply's, ill do so. im gathering some basic sites etc so i can read them all when i got time... about braking in 14.1.. when i train it in the club i use a power shot, and well i tend to pot at least 1 ball 2 out of 3 opening shots... is it realy to dangerous to open the pack? maybe u can show me how to open in straight pool with that pool link and the weird code... ive got that thing installed, and i know how to work with it. ( a picture says more then 1000 words)

trophycue: exactly. ive checked some sites, post etc, and ive been thinking of the a P2 with a Z shaft. (loontjes dont sell the 314 shafts, and its the only one i can get too. even if its still very far for me). ps why is the Z shaft thinner 11.75? then the 314 (12.75?). i really didnt like playing with my pool cue, and ill prolly will use a clubue till i have the money to pay for a good poolcue. im just SO freaking scared to brake my cue... maybe i can post mine on ebay and try to swap for a cue? (mmm maybe not a good idea, to buy a 2d hand P2..)

tom: thx for the info. yeah i love antwerp to play snooker. one of the best clubs (in my opinion is there. i used to make brakes double as high as normal when i played on those tables. even the clubcues where SO good to play with.). Im not even close on playing on the eurotoor, ill be glad if i ever find myself in the top32 of belgium, but im just playing for 1 month. cant expect TOO much out of it. but i really think being a old snooker player is a GOOD thing. all i learned was from there. now i just need to learn the small details, (this site is already helping alot) and ill be soon as good in pool as i was in snooker.

bazarus; nice to meet u. yeah ive been using pool clubs to fool around on some qualifying rounds, and last 16 players. but its true. the matches i lost, is not from missing a ball. (i really rarly miss, prolly cuz im used to the very tight snooker pockets) but its all about positional play. i have no feeling at all of what pace to play. my personal findings are: i think there is a massive difference on the table cloth and the cussions. the pool cussions seem to absorb ALOT of energy. they really slow down the balls compared to snooker. on snooker u can really bounce of, and even increasy the pace with the effect u used. in pool all my balls seem to die after they hit a cussion with low pace. also the cloth seems faster on pool. i overhit alot of shots. i think it will take at least a year before i can really position my shots exactly like i want. but i got time :p

renard: thanx for the reply. i fell in love with the black P2... max money i could win by winning a ranking is 300$, so i dont think ill ever be able to buy a pool cue with that money, but its a good idea... saving the money u earned for a cue. i know , just like u, i play my best when there is money on the table. maybe if i concentrate on the cue i might be able to buy, id play better. about the straight championship, i hope to qualify, but it will be hard. im having a massive flue (ok gives me ALOT of time to search things on the inet) and my bridge arm is hurting like hell. i could use a massage.
maybe that SO cute US woman pool player could do one? :p her poster will be hanging in my poolroom in no time thats for sure.

mjantii and predator: i think the same way. i think ill keep my open bridge. as ive read, the break is all about pressision, not about power. and i really think i can get a nice powerbreak even with a open bridge. ill be training the 9ball break shot as soon as this flue is gone... ill surely contact him. a predator p2 and bk with 2 Zshafts would be perfect, but its expensive.. around 2K euro's... a 200€ cue would be perfect, and in my budget right now... i can buy the other cues later once i can really feel the differences etc. mjantii are u from finland or belgium.? or none of these? :)
