Pressing Irish Linen

I've asked before questions about the wrap, but I was curious how do you cuemakers press the irish linen ? Do you need a lathe for that or can it be done by hand ? What I understood is that the final stage of "pressing" the linen makes it a little bit more dense & durable so it won't unravel.

Thanks again in advance :)

A Lathe is very helpful seeing you press the linen while the cue is turning. A linen press is mainly desined to make the linen consistant. If a wrap is not done properly, it can cause blisters. The purpose of the glue is to keep the linen from loosening. Most people have their own form of treating the linen with chemicals of some sort after pressing. Some use spray starch, some like myself use different combonations of chemicals to create a scotch guard.

I use spray starch also, and finish up with waxed paper, while it's spinning at about 800 RPM's. Works for me........
