Pressing Irish linen

I tried tonight a friend's cue with what I'm assuming was pressed linen, it was very smooth but grippy. I really liked it but he has no idea, he bought it like that. My playing cue has the Mezz original linen wrap, it's tight and uniform but feels textured and slippery in the hand.

Is there a way to press it like that at home without a lathe? If so, could someone write clear instructions. I'm not interested in any solutions that involve clear coats or other chemicals. It should still be absorbant. Thank you !

I’ve ironed mine for many years.
I lay cue down on folded towel, turn on hand iron ( for ironing clothes) to highest setting. Press iron on linen hard while rotating. Just on linen . Better be sure it is linen . Been very happy with the results joss & predator cues from the 90’s

Interesting, can you post pictures of the result?

You can spray it with starch, like for ironing a shirt. Then take smooth side of a paper bag and twist cue with it in your hand and a little pressure. Gets all the fibers to lay flat.

Can also do the same with the wax side of wax paper, then smooth side of paper bag. It works very well.
