Pressing s tip???

I am purchasing a tip press on the internet and I have to press the tip today. I haven't done one in a long time but I used to use a vice with two aluminum plates. I was wondering the best method and pressure to use when doing so as I haven't done it in a long time I'm not even sure I was doing it correctly then. I also heard of people hitting them a couple times with a hammer lightly?
Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, Ron
 
I just leave mine in for 5 min. Seems to do the trick.

I use a tip press. I twist it down as far as it will go and keep it there for a few min. You can use a vice and honestly it will work better but I have a lathe and so I don't mind cutting out a few shrooms here and there.

I'm kinda new to this, but why press a tip before installing it? I mean is this most repair man do when installing a tip?

Pressing a tip basically breaks in the tip so it eliminates most of the break in process if not all so that it will not mushroom or bow out in the centers. I started doing it a long time ago with a vice and aluminum plates but I think I was pressing too much and it was making it harder so I quit and sometimes I would get tips back that I would have to take the mushroom out or clean it up. I had somebody specifically request me to press a morri tip because of how bad they mushroom
There's only a few tips out there that I would even press mainly because they're known to mushroom or because they're soft. I taper my tips slightly also.
I even tried to make Milk Duds (soaked and pressed elk Masters) but they came out a little too hard.
