Pressure on bridge hand

I recently discovered that if I apply additional pressure on my bridge hand (that is, push my bridge hand into the slate) after lining up my shot, my shot making improves tremendously. I think there is more at work here than simply steadying my bridge hand. It seems to stabilize my entire body and the added tension in my hand and arm seem to relieve tension in my shooting arm and shoulder. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

I was told early on by my APA captain to pretend I was trying to push my bridge hand through the felt. In hindsight that may be a little extreme, but it was helpful at the time. I think a few factors play in, but generally it is good advice for newer players.

sounds like a good technique to relax the cueing arm. another idea i read on here ages ago to relax your arm too was to imagine you are holding a crisp between your teeth but you don't want to break it. trouble is it just makes me hungry so my attention diverts to buying a packet of crisps from behind the bar.

(potato chips to americans)

ive read that before and i try and do it when im using an open bridge.....with a closed bridge it seems to hurt me more than help
