Hi Jenn,

I live on Long Island, and am interested in taking some lessons from a Pro. I was hoping you might know of somebody in this area that I could talk to. I know Andy Segal lives out here, but I haven't seen him lately (we sometimes play at the same place) and I don't know if he does lessons.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Abby

Hi Abby,

I don't really know who plays on Long Island other than Andy (who is a super nice guy as well as a great player). I will ask around, and hopefully someone will have some info.

Abby,

Give Tony Robles a call. He's at Corner Billiards in the city. The last number I have for them is 917 202 2750. Like Andy, Tony is a top player and a great individual. One caveat. If you want to learn, he demands dedication.. Call him only if you are serious about leaping into the "professional" ranks.

You might also contact Joe Tucker in Providence, RI. Joe has written several books on the game. His new "Cue Ball" is a great teaching tool.

Scott Nokovsky, who plays every now and then at House of Lords in Hicksville was a pro in the late 80s/early 90s. He's young, but got tired of excelling in a sport with no financial future.

He's an excellent player -- probably a little better than Frankie Hernandez when he played. He might give lessons -- seems like a nice guy.

Thanks for the info, I would love to get into the "professional" ranks, but I also have a full time job and I bartend a couple nights a week. So in short, I would not be able to quit my jobs and play pool all day while I learned. As of right now I play pool at least 5-6 nights a week (if not every night), but I only play for about 2 hours at a clip.

I do give lessons, but it is tough for me to commit to anything regular. I was teaching a couple from the Nassau County APA league on Mondays, but that started getting tough due to tournaments and exhibitions (and of course family which comes first).

If you want lessons on bar tables, the best place to have them is Instant Replay in Huntington. If you want lessons on 9 footers, the best place is any of those poolrooms on Jericho near Instant Replay (Hot Shots, Billiard Emporium, etc).

Send me an email or give me a call if you are interested. You can contact me through my website (www.andysegal.com).

By the way, if you don't mind going into the city, I would recommend Tony Robles over myself.

And thanks, Jenn, for the kind words. I hope we get to do another exhibition together soon. Maybe I'll be able to convince you to play in some of our artistic events eventually.

Andy
