Puerto Rico Shoot Out...money?

Congratulations to Archer, Saez, and Robles for their finishes in Puerto Rico; but I was shocked to see how low the prizes were! While reading about all the attention the PR press and politicians were devoting to the tournament I thought that the payouts would be significant. Robles finishes 5/6, and only makes $250? How can the pros afford to travel to the island to compete? Were they getting expense or appearance money?

I attended the event and wondered the same thing myself. I think the prizes will be larger next year. I know that one of the players... CD... won $1000 Friday night playing small-table 8-ball with the locals... then also raped them again Saturday night to the tune of $3000. He was knocked out of the tourney early, but still made twice as much as Johnny.
