Has anyone tried both these jump/break cues, they are more or less the same prices.

I'm considering getting one for a friend, if anyone has tried both, let me know their differences.

Thanks
Tim

You would be better off posting in the Cue Review section, for future reference. But...

I've tried the Poison J/B.

- Poison VX Jump/Break
Pros:
Predator Quality
Predator Warranty
I like the rubberized grip
Sub $200 break cue

Cons:
Imported
May not fit in your case because of the rubber grip.

-Players PureX Jump/Break
Pros:
Players Quality
Players Warranty
I like the rubberized grip
3 piece vs Posion 2 piece
Some can be bought same price with 2 shafts
Sub $200 break cue

Cons:
Imported
Quality can be hit or miss
Laminated shaft can be a pro or con

Players Warranty

Pure X Cues are made by Lucasi, I believe. They may be made to less exacting standards, but if so I haven't noticed.
The PureX HXTP J/B does not come with a laminated shaft.

Tim,

I can't speak for the new Poison cues, but I have used the VX 2.9 jump/break and I own a VX jump cue. Both are good for the price. I'm not sure what's changed besides the grip and the graphics on the new cues, but they're still using the same shaft, and the rest of the cue looks basically unchanged. The grip on the VX series always felt a bit slim to me. I'm not sure if they've made that thicker or not with the change in material, but if your friend has small hands that may be a plus. In any event the VX series seemed pretty good to me for the price and I imagine the new BRK series performs equally as well. I doubt your friend would be disappointed with it.

However, I picked up a PureX HXTP1 with a break shaft and a playing shaft from Seyberts for $195 and I don't know how you could ask for more from a cue in that price range. It breaks well, jumps well, and has a quick release joint to swap over to the playing shaft which plays well. Know in advance it will come with an HXT Skinny (11.75mm) Shaft for that price tag. I realize the Players brand may be a concern, but this really is a good cue. I love mine and I have a buddy who loves his too. You really can't go wrong picking one of these up. Rain-Man here on AZ posted in another thread that he could beat the $195 price Seyberts has.

If you're looking for suggestions, my vote goes to the PureX HXTP. But I'll go out on a limb and bet whichever cue you decide on will be plenty satisfactory.

My only concern now is that I own a volturi case that is padded snug fitted interior. I cant fit these rubber grip cues in them. :(

I could have sworn they were laminated, but I just checked and they aren't.

Regardless if they are made by Lucasi or not; Players, Outlaw, Action, Eltie, Lucasi, and a few others all come from CueStix International. (Which doesn't mean they are bad quality). Both the poison cue and the pure x cue are imported, but I feel you will get better service down the road, with a Poison.

Thanks for the heads up... I took seyberts up on that deal.. With an easily found coupon code (who rules?). $186 shipped to my door via UPS. Can't ask for more...will make a great beater for me.

I tried both and like Poison better, PureX is pretty fat at the bottom- might have problems fitting it in the case

Tim,

With any rubber or rubber like grips, that wont slide in a case's interior like yours or JB Cases tight fit:

Use a womens knee high sock/hose. Silk ones work the best. Slide your cue in it, hold the open end in your fingers, slides right in and out with NO problem. I did alot of homework trying different things. This works the best. I ruined the hole of a JB case because the cue got stuck...:)

I was never a fan of the sports/rubber grips... think I might just have it cut off and replaced with a linen wrap.

I have NO problem putting my Players Pure-X J/B cue in my Volturi case. It's very snug, and the rubber doesn't slide out as easy as a wrapless, but it's by no means difficult.

Poison vs purex

I've played both, both hit nice.. I found with the PureX if you take out the extension piece (extension closest to shaft) It hits real good without having to put alot of effort in. When they're both full lenght the poison hits a tad nicer IMO

Hmm, then it must be a different rubber material. Because I tried inserting a Mezz PB1 butt only, no shafts or other butts inserted, so its loose. It got stuck in my volturi case, took me quite a while to get the butt out.

It's the same one every Pure-X has. I have litterally ZERO problems. I also have one of Rogers early 3x6 cases.

Just received my Pure-X today... just did some strokes in the air..

First thoughts.. the rubber grip is much softer than the poison cue I owned... I like the 4 piece deal. The extra shaft for free... outstanding.

I just looked at Seyberts again; and the deal is gone. I lucked out... but excellent cue for $185 shipped.

Thanks,
Mark

No problem.

I didn't think I'd like the rubber grip either, but it's surprisingly easy to get accustomed to... I actually like it.

I LOVE the rubber grip. You can really snap into your break, and not have to have such a tight grip! I actually even bought a roll-on after market grip for my play recently. I love it!
