I know there are lots of good laminated and non-laminated maple shafts for break cues, but what about the others?
Purpleheart vs Ashwood shafts
Which is heavier?
Which is stiffer?
Other considerations?
Is the much difference vs maple?

Yes, me too. I really would like to understand. I would like to understand this better.

I know with a 13.5 mm Purpleheart shaft, I can have a cuemaker make the shaft with a break taper and it will come in like 4.3 - 5 oz. That ill give me a forward balance. Also, from what I read, purpleheart will give me about the stiffest hit.

Besides, it looks cool!:grin-square:

Though, on the otherside, there are people who reccomend Ashwood cue shafts.

Purplehart is heavy. And very stiff.
Pm me i'll tell you were to go for a good purpleheart shaft...

I have a PH break cue. It is stiff and heavy. My guess is that ashwood would be somewhere between maple and PH as stiffness and weight, more flexible. I didn't saw a lot of them as break shafts.
