Hiya guys,

Just thought I'd share some info on the two pool rooms I've been to down here in the Newport News area.

First room I hit last week was Obelisk Billiard Club, in Newport News. An "upper scale" room...lots of brass and wood, nice Gandy tables, attentive staff, full kitchen and bar. BIG BIG BIG screen TV for the NFL or race fans. 18 9-foot tables (I think). Overall, a nice place to play. Peace and quiet all around....good for practice.

This weekend I spent most of my time at Q-Master's Billiard Room in Virginia Beach. This is as close to Pool Mecca that I have come. HUGE floor with 55 tables. Fair split between Brunswicks and Diamonds. They are under-staffed...but the waitresses do their best to keep up with everyone. Even better...they KNOW when to leave you alone...if you know what I mean.

I met Mr. Bollman there. Nice guy, and nice little cueshop in the back. Saw quite a few cues already done and ready for sale...and quite a few in the works.

If any of ya'll have to be down here for work or vacation...I HIGHLY suggest a visit to one of these two spots.

FWIW,

Mark

8-ball Rat, You fail to mention the Gabriel 3 Cushion table, when you first walk in, near the counter at QMaster. Did you get a chance to talk with Barry?

You are correct, sir. My apologies.....the 3 cushion table is the first one you see (provided you walk in a straight line!! :) ) when you walk in. I've never played the game myself...but spent some time watching two older gents playing a round...and it's a fascinating game.

No, I haven't met Barry yet. I made a B-line to Mr. Bollman in the back to get my tip reshaped, and then moved straight to one of the Diamond tables.

I'm hoping to meet Barry this week. I'd love to hit him up for some info on a few of the players in there, and just yap about the room and the U.S. Open that his place hosts.

Thanks,

Mark
