Q'ing for the World Championships

Hello Jennifer,

I was hoping that you would share with us your feelings/ experiences on trying to qualify for the World Championships in Austria.

1.) Because you had to qualify and were not an invited player, was the experience worth the time, money, and energy that you had to exhaust after just finishing the 2004 WPBA tour in FL a day or so before?

2.) Why did you decide to go the q'er route? Why was this event that important for you? What do you feel were the benefits of trying to qualify? Do you feel there were any additional benefits for invited players, besides the fact that they don't have to go thru the q'ers?

3.) Would you do it again next year if you are not an invited player?

Thanx for your time.

Hi Landshark

Sorry for the delay...I just got back to Austria. Romana and I went to Augsburg, Germany for a couple of days.

I have to say that the experience was definitely worth it. Romana and I both would have loved to qualify, but we've had so many great experiences here.

The event wasn't terribly important to me, but it's rare that we get the opportunity to play in other countries, so I figured I'd take advantage of it. Invited players get most of their expenses covered, though.

Romana and I are already planning it!

Thank you for your reply.

How does one become and invited player and what do you feel your chances are for becoming an invited player next year?

Thank you in advance.

Hey Landshark,

The top 6 U.S. players were invited, and I was next on the list. Right now my ranking has moved up to 12th overall, so if I can keep it around there I will most likely be invited next year.

Hello again Jennifer,

Sorry to keep bothering you about this stuff, but I am a bit confused.

When do they do the inviting? Based on the points list post the WPBA nationals, and if I am not mistaken about everyone’s nationality, this is what I find as the top 6 US WPBA players:

1. Jeanette Lee
2. Monica Webb
3. Vivian Villarreal
4. Melissa Herndon
5. Melissa Little
6. Tiffany Nelson

According to the same stats, Sarah Rousey is the 7th highest ranked US player and you are the 8th highest US player. Did they do the inviting at a time when you were ranked higher? This whole World Championships thing is totally new to me and I'd like to learn all I can about it.

Also based on the 32 fixed participant's list for the World Championships, there are only 5 fixed US players. Is this because Vivian chose to not participate? Do they not use a back up player?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you for your help. I wish you luck in keeping your high ranking.

Landshark, don't feel bad about asking so many questions. If you didn't, I probably would. I'm not too familiar with the way Worlds work either. I think it's great that there are some pro players willing to take some time out and interact with the fans like this. It's greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,

I was mistaken about the number of US players they invited. Apparently it was 5. Vivian declined her spot, and Sarah was next on the list. I was told by someone that I was next on the list, but I never actually looked at the rankings to see if that was correct. It didn't really matter to me because all I knew was that I wasn't invited! Sorry for the confusion.
