Question about Instroke cases.

My experience with Porper and Guiseppe cases is this: as good as they are, their shoulder straps don't last long. I've had to use safety pins to keep the strap connected. I once replaced a Porper strap with a homemade strap made out of a clothesline. It worked better, believe it or not, but made resale impossible.

I'm thinking of trying vinyl Instroke cases next, because I don't want to spend several hundred on one of those really high-end ones. Their shoulder straps seem quite thick--even the vinyl (which is in my price range). Can anyone attest to how long their straps last?

Thanks...

You get what you pay for. Vinyl does not last as long as a good leather case. You may be better off getting a good case now and then you will not have to replace it every year or so.

The way I designed the straps both leather and vinyl is to have a strip of strong nylon in the center to handle the stress.

You should be fine with a vinyl Instroke and the strap will be just fine for dozens of years.

In some cases you get more than what you pay for. This is one of them.

Upholstery grade vinyl can last as long as leather if properly constructed.

The majority of people using Instroke cases are still using them in perfect working order with daily use of over five years with many at the 10+ year mark. Of course there have been the odd batch or two where something wasn't done properly, either in my design or a production misstep, but those issues were quickly resolved and the afflicted customers taken care of.

Now, I would be fairly confident to say that you would be okay with an Instroke case and IF there was a problem then Instroke would handle it.

Just to add to John's post, I have owned a couple of Instroke cases. I did have an issue with the leather strap, but Instroke replaced it at no charge.

Now I am looking forward to getting my new JB Custom case from John. It may take a couple of months, but knowing John's reputation from his Instroke days, I have every expectation this one is going to be something special. Will post up some pics when it is finished.

John, I still have a package here waiting to ship out.

I have a vinyl 3 x 5 Instroke and have owned it for about 4 years. It's a heavy case when fully loaded but the strap has never given me any issues. And I'd be willing to bet that my case and strap are put through more wear and tear than most. Living in NYC, I usually end up walking at least a mile or two with it slung over my shoulder walking around town. Regardless, it's held up absolutely perfectly. One of the best case investments I've made.

I've owned my Buffalo Instroke (3x5) for approx 3 years. I don't typically use the strap but use either the top handle or side handle. Now I use my case with a portable dolley so I roll it around versus carrying. See one of my other posts about case stands. People laugh initially but at least my back doesn't hurt anymore. Should be a boone when we go out to Vegas for the BCA nationals in May.......

Great info, thanks.

Okay, sold. Talk about getting it from the horse's mouth! (Uh, no offense meant...)

There's nylon in my Guiseppe case's strap, too, but that didn't stop the (thin, and possibly lower-quality) vinyl from tearing apart. But your straps look a lot thicker.

Thanks to all...

I have had an Instroke 3x7 chestnut and brown case since 2003 and it is in excellent shape and has held up very well !

The straps are solid and are well built !

Before you spend several hundred dollars on the case, please call me I am a distributor and can save you atleast 100.00 or better on a 2x4 or bigger instoke case !
