question about tip size

Ok, my first Meucci the two new shafts and tips are 13mm

The Meucci I just got has two shafts and both are 12mm.

Now is there going to be a huge difference in the way they play? Because I always hear how a thinner shaft is whippier or causes more deflection or english.

Way back when, I bought a McDermott with both a 12mm and a 13mm shaft, I personally did not like the 12mm shaft because it put too much spin on the ball. Just too much voodoo as I called it.

Now I shoot with a predator 314 which is a 12.75 and I feel I do much better.

The main thing is, what are you willing to be comfortable with? If I would of practiced more with the 12mm shaft, I probably would of got more used to it, and it would of been okay. Instead I sold the cue cheap and unloaded it...dumb mistake on my part in that I should of went back to the 13mm shaft and gave it another chance.

If it feels good in your hand, and you have the patience to get used to it, then use it! If it just does not feel right or if you play with it for months and it still is not comfortable and stable to you, then go back to 13mm is my recommendation.

What's your thoughts Jennifer?

All I know is that my shafts are somewhere between 12 & 13mm. I don't know what kind of tip I have. I think the cue weight is 18oz. No idea how long it is. What I do know is that it is a Predator P2 and it seems to get the job done. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

If your shafts are between 12 and 13mm, then you have a 314 shaft.

314 Shafts are 12.75mm
Z Shafts are 11.75mm

The tip is either a LePro Medium or a Moori Medium for predator stock shafts.

Believe it or not, I actually know that I have a 314! :-P

I love my 314 shaft. I have one on an old viking and I was able to draw the cueball 19 feet (from the second diamond to the end rail, back to the other end rail and then 3 more diamonds on a 9ft table). It is simply amazing!!! I cant wait to try out the Z shaft!

its wild how a little difference in size makes such a difference on how you feel a shaft plays. I bought one of those electronic caliper sets so i could get the exact sizes of shafts.....i have a meucci shaft i play with that i love.....thats 12.6mm.......when i play with my schon its shafts are 13.01mm and it feels like a tree trunk. Im going to get both of them turned down to at least 12.75....find a shaft you really like and measure it so youll know, I dont think the difference of .30 to .50 mm would be enough to cause any whippiness really, i guess it depends on the taper. Of course as you get a smaller and smaller tip you will have to be more and more precise with your cue ball hit.

ok...I have a Meucci Original...it's got the new Black Dot Shaft on it...anyone now the diameter of the shaft/tip?...it has a strong taper that I like in my bridge, although on some shots it can be a bit whippy...

thx~

What's the prize if I guess correctly? And when I do make my guess, what are you going to use to determine my accuracy? I'm not going to say anything until you go to Home Depot and buy some calipers with mm readings.
They aren't that expensive. Or, as a true cheap, broke pool player...take your shaft into Home Depot to "test" the accuracy of the calipers before buying. Aside from that...what they're SUPPOSED to be and what they ARE can be two different things. Don't you really want to KNOW what it is in addition to all of your other shafts?

With all that in retrospect, most tips come oversized and then shaped down when installed on a lathe... So as long as the tips are larger than your shaft, then I don't see whats the point in arguing here.

I must be losing something in my interpretation here...cause I'm missing your entire point. What does that have to do with the finished size?
