Tips, tips, tips...
Don't be fooled by all the tip hype. There are lots of tips to choose from. The only way for you to decide what you like is to try it out for yourself.
Really, a tip is a tip. You can use an elkmaster or a Kamui and accomplish pretty much the same result. Soft / hard, laminated-multi layered, or single layer, there is a ton of research ahead of you, but I can tell you that you can pick from some basic tips and go from there. It also depends on what level of game you have. If you are above average in your skill, you it will matter greatly because of your sensitivity.
Triangles are the best single layered tips period, and it is considered to be hard. Lepro is also hard and popular. Elkmaster is soft and very popular as well, soak it in milk and press it and you have a milkdud which negates mushrooming.
Japanese Moori's and Kamui's are among the best, but Tiger makes Snipers which shook the pool industry. Hercules are my favorite as are
Visit your local cue guy. Offer him a sandwich and ask him for his opinion. He will most likely work with you on a multi-tip deal to try some out for less than $50 bucks.
Wolfbite's website has more detailed info on what you seek, but don't buy into all that equipment crap, especially if you are a beginner. You could end up spending a whole lot more than you had originally planned thinking you will actually get somewhere when in reality that time should've been spent on the table.
