Question for leather case makers and repairmen.

I was wondering if this strap can be replaced. It is the same on the bottom as the top (this is a picture of the top). It is an old Palmer case The top two rivets are firmly connected to the case the bottom one is not connected to the case. Is this something that can be fixed or replaced. I have no clue and I am just wondering. A friend of mine (BigCat) was kind enough to give me this case. It is not necessary for me to have a strap but like I said I am just curious if it can be fixed if I would like to do that someday. Thanks and thanks again to BigCat :).

You could call Garth at OnQcases in Scottsdale, I think he could help you out. Or PM him as he is a Forum Member.
 
Take it to a leather shop. They should be able to pull those rivets and put a new strap on it.

Cool. I didn't know if it was possible to do that. Me being lazy I was hoping someone would have a ball park on what it would cost. :)

Yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. You'd have to take it to a place that actually makes their own bags, jackets etc...

Yes. What you want to have done is to have a luggage repair, leather shop, or boot repair shop put a loop where the bottom rivet is. Basically they are going to put a loop of leather with a rectangle ring at that spot. THey should remove the existing rivet and clamp the new piece over the remaining piece of leather and then rivet through the new piece.

Do the same on the bottom and thread your new strap through the rings. You will need a tension buckle like this one - http://www.jbcases.com/pic/rollsroyce/Hybrid-Front-Closeup-Middle2.JPG

Which should be available at the luggage repair shop or a tandy leather store.

It's an easy repair that doesn't invlove taking the case apart.

Thank you for the information. I found a Luggage Repair shop by my house that is going to give me a free estimate.
