or anyone on the board who's done this before.

When I rotate back to the States, I'll be moving into a new house I'm having built. I picked a floor plan with an eye toward having a great room for my Robertson 9'er. It'll have plenty of room all around to shoot, with lots of space for spectator chairs and a corner bar. The flooring in the room will be the standard short pile with a carpet pad underneath. When I move, I'll have the table mechanics from Robertson's Billiards in Tampa take down the table at the old house and re-set it up in the new one.

Now for the question. How long should I wait before I have the table mechanic come back out to the house to re-level after it settles into the carpet? Is there a standard period of time, or should I just keep checking it with a 4 foot bubble level. How much can I expect it to settle after they set it up? I didn't have to deal with this when I first had it set up, because it sitts on a hard wood floor in my current house.

As long as possible ideally! If possible get them to move it over....set the frame up, and get it close to level. Then put the slates on.....and let it sit! The table is suppose to settle all the same.....but that doesn't always hold true. Most of the time it does but...........if it was mine I would let it sit at least a week....or as long as you can. Then get the mechs to come back and finish it. It might cost ya a little extra because it is 2 trips for them. But it will be worth it I think.
And about the 4 foot bubble.....they are nowhere near percise enough to level a table. We use the starrett machine levels.
We went to a job one time...they guy just wanted us to put the cloth on the bed and finish the rails. He said he got the slates level. We set a starett on the slates and it bounced one way or they other everywhere we set it. The guy kinda took offence to the fact that we said his wood levels were not what you really call level.
Anyway.....hope I helped ya.............as long as you can let it sit the better!

PoolTableMechanic, I have seen that time and time again myself. I had a guy ask to borrow my level while i was working on his table. I said sure. About an hour later goes by and he says I think your level is screwed up..

he was trying to use the level to hang his mantle..

Poor guy!

Dollar bill throws the starrett off a line...

Moral of the story, The four foot wood level works GREAT for Mantles, Not Pool Tables..

Thanks' for the excellent advice. I don't mind paying for two visits as long as the table is set up right.

I'll definatly save the 4 foot level for the mantle and the back fence;)

Hey this one guy was actually mad about it. He said I can build anything with my wood level! He was like a jack of all trades dude working for the home owner. He thought he could set the table up him self. But got kinda stump half way through and the owners called us I guess.
The seems weren't even close! And he had used some kinda of plaster patching to smooth them out. The home owner finally told the guy to go back to what he was doing and let the pool table guys do the pool table! lol
We stuck a sheet of paper under one end of our levels and it moved it 3 lines! Then stuck my finger under the wood level and it still looked close! lol!
Yeah.....about your table.....the longer that dead weight of the slates can sit there the better. Even if you do that part your self. You can put the frame together and get it close to level with your wood level. Then set the slates on there. ........or I am sure the mechs you get will do it for you on a 2 trip deal!
