Question on Forfeitures

It seems like there have been quite a few forfeitures in the 3rd round. Greg Hogue not showing up for his last 2 matches against Nick Van den Berg and David Matlock. And then Ginky against Gandy Valle. Isn't there a severe penalty against forfeiture since it affects the possible outcome of other people's advancement ? It seems to be quite unsportmanlike and totally against the spirit of fair play not to put forth your best efforts at all times. Not to mention the winning percentage carrying forward.

Perhaps it's because they are not on the tour so they do not feel as invested in their future ? Just wondering.

It is certainly something that should be addressed because someone could end up going through because of a forfeiture and not have as good a winning percentage (actual games won and lost) as the player eliminated. An example is group 43, Ginn, Paez and Walden all could advance if they win their last match they all had 2 wins and were not playing each other and they were within 2 percentage points of each other. If one of there 3 opponents forfeited it would throw the last spot unfairly to the winner by forfeit. (Walden won convincingly to get the 3rd spot.)

If they are going to allow forfeits they better figure out a way that it won't affect the outcomes. I think a lengthy ban on anyone who forfeits is appropriate given the fact winning percentage can play a major role in who advances.
