Question on getting jobs

I am thinking about starting my own little business working as a consultant for bars/pool halls, part of the deal would be able to have repairs to cues/ tables redone/ etc etc...in general what is the feeling toward working for someone like this as a contractor doing tables? What would you say are fair rates for installation for bar box/8/9 tables... businesses only no residential.

are there any pitfalls I should be weary of?

Thoughts...ideas....?

I see you are in the north burgs of chi town, dont know how far north, but up my way lake and mchenry county's most of the bars that have tables dont own them, they are through 1 of a couple amusement company's and they handle all the table repairs and such. So might want to look into the area before banking on that line.

as for the cue repair no advice..

Actually thinking about this in the Detroit Metro area, but thanks.

Are you going to do the work or are you wanting to be like a contractor and subing out work??????

because i learnt from experience that subing out dont work........

lets just say for example i charge $200.00 to recover a 7' bar box
thats what i charge everyone......but you will want me to give you a deal (because of all the work you will give me ) and only charge you $150.00

now why would i want to do the same amount of work for less money?????

Because you would not incur such expenses as advertising and all of the legwork that comes with finding work,so you can charge a little less. NOT 25% though! We would certainly discount to a certain degree depending on the volume of work we were contracting for.

but i already advertise and have a client list (including a lot of bars)
so why would i compete with myself for a lower rate?

now i might be different if it was in another city where you dont already have your business set up but then you have to figure in the travel time and mileage.....

now maybe a 10% finders fee would be ok....but thats about all
this is just my opinion on the subject as this has happened to me twice...

now i have subed install work with no problem as they were selling their tables and i was just installing them .....

$150.00 is the Going Rate in My Neighborhood for a 7 Foot Bar Box, Thanks to all the Hack Artists Around.

10% finders fee would be more then fine, what I would be looking for is a qualified table fitter that I can trust to do a job correctly, I can sell the job to the client just fine on my own, and if there were to be a mark up, id do it on that end.

But that was my question, whats the going rates for a 6/7/8/9 ft table nowadays, I was just wondering what were the problems you have encountered as being contracted out by a third party, because these are the issues I would like to address and make sure do not occur when this little venture comes to existence later this year.

Thanks for the input

I would not even make the drive for that price. Call around your area and get a quote.

ok.. lets simplify this.... what do you charge to refelt a bar box? parts and labor? Im not holding anyone to this price, just looking for an idea
