Remember, gang, I am relatively new to all this....
The Renfro recently was offering the chance to test his new line of tips on the Main Forum, and I decided to take him up on it. I had never changed the original Everest tip on my McDermott. I asked Chris for a "soft" simply based on things I had read here over the years about people choosing the "soft" versions of the tips they used, and I felt that it might apply to me.
So I get the tip and have installed. The "soft" is a major change for me. I described it as a mushy feel. I played with it last night, and again this afternoon. I want to be fair to Chris in my appraisal, and have a theory about how this might affect my game.
I have been accused (heh) of being tenative in my shooting. Rightly so. It seems, in my limited time with this new tip, that I need to stroke the ball more firmly as a result of the "softness" of the tip.
Have any of you experienced this, either yourself or with one of your students? Does it make sense that this could actually be helpful to me, in my particular instance, in generating a more firmer stroke?
Or am I reaching? Again, this is with limited experience so far. I'm quite sure I tend to overthink things somewhat
Thanks.
