How difficult would it be to have the joint replaced on the butt of a cue, or can it even be done?
If so any ideas on price?
I may be looking to have this done in the near future if possible.

what are you asking?

Do you just need a new male screw? New collars? New female insert or collars in the shaft? Or, are you looking to switch to a different screw type? The latter is the hardest depending what you are starting with and what you want to go to. And another part is the condition of the cue and how the original joint was installed. Anything can be done for a price though. It depends mostly with what you really want done.

What I am looking for is to have the Quick release joint out of the butt on my McDermott replaced with a stainless 5/16 x 14 similar to what is on a schon.
My other cues have the same type joint, and it would be nice to have the same on this cue as well.

The McDermott quick release is a little different because the joint pin is actually part of the joint from what I have seen of them. They have a 3/8X10 and a 3/8X16 quick release.
