Questions about Keith Josey shafts.

I'm gonna be buying another "playing" (not a closet queen) cue and I'm considering a Josey.

What are the PLAYABILITY differences between Keith's Timeless Timber, Java and Zero shafts?

Assuming that all three shafts have the same:

Taper
length
weight
ferrule
tip

and used on the same Josey cue butt with radial pin.

For example:

Which shaft is lower in deflection?

Which shaft has better energy transfer?

I've got more questions, but I'll wait and see if I can find the answers using the search function before I ask.

Thanks a ton!!!

Why not ask Josey?

I like getting reviews from players, as well as the makers.

Plus the Josey cue I'm looking at is used and I don't want to waste Josey's time asking questions.

Now that is clear, do you play with Josey equipment? If so, what's your experience?
He'll answer all your questions. Just call him. The Java , being kielwood, will be lighter than reg. maple. His standard shafts play great.

No, I don't play with a Josey. I've hit a few balls with a Josey but I'm not sure which shaft I was using or how it compares to any other Josey shafts.

I highly doubt you're going to come across somebody on here who has spent enough time playing with each of the three shafts to be able to answer you questions accurately. Seems like a very long shot.

I've had a Keith Josey sneaky with the standard shaft, for about 11 years. It plays great, but I can't compare it to his other shafts, because I've never tried them. That's all I have.

I was able to get with Sherri and she told me I would be better off going with another cue maker.

The reason she said that was because I told her I preferred shafts that were in the LD range of a predator z3 or revo.

She told me I would probably not be satisfied with the zero shaft because it wouldn't be as ld as what I'm use to. Not to mention, I'm use to 11.5 mm to 12.4 mm shafts and Keith prefers to not go below 12.75ish.

She was extremely nice and very willing to answer any and all of my questions.

If it wasn't such a long wait, I would probably buy a Josey cue and then put a revo on it.

I have a good friend ( Brent Romine of BROMINE cues ) that plays a carbon fiber shaft ( that he made ) on his Josey.

I will stay on the lookout for a used Josey and if one comes along at a reasonable price I will buy it.

Thanks for taking the time to provide the link.

Ditto here...my 2007 Josey came with 2 standard shafts. I've been curious about the timeless timber, but not enough to buy one. I guess that means I'm happy enough with the hit as it is.

Sounds as if Keith feels that anything smaller than 12.75 will degrade the stiff hit with excellent feedback that his cues are known for.

I've played 11.8mm shafts on a josey and it played extremely well.

Then again, the 11.8 shaft was a carbon fiber shaft and was much stiffer than most any wooden shaft of any size.

The reason I started this thread was because I love the feel, sound and feedback of quality wood shafts, but I also love the ld of a revo.

In the end I pick LD over feel, but it would be nice to have extremely low deflection AND the feel...sound and feedback of high end wood.
