Last week Bob King of Greenville, SC passed away. I got a call saying that he was at The Palace Billiards and had a heart attack. I do not know Bob's life story or too much of his background. I do know that when I showed up on the pool scene in Greenville about 15 yrs ago, Bob could always be found in the pool room. Over the yrs that didn't change much as I always knew that whenever I go home to visit, I could always count on Bob to be at gametime either playin or sweatin the weekly 9 ball tourney. Bob was the first person I had ever seen play one handed and run out. I was a kid and my experience in pool was limited to our local pool hall. Of course I've seen all kinds of things since then but I'll never forget the first time I saw him shoot one handed... Bob was also one of the few that on occasion would take a min or two to show me something about the game. I would spend hours at the table and every so often he would come over when he saw me struggling or just flat out doing something wrong...Thanks Bob! Bob & Red Willis ("the ledgend in his own mind" that we also lost a few yrs back. RIP Red) had stories between them and I wish I could remember them... I just remember alot of laughs as they told of their antics. Bob has a daughter, and I believe two brothers. I apologize if there's anyone else in his family that I missed.

The pool room never was the same after we lost Red and it'll now change again as I say good bye to Bob.... :(

My condolences to the King Family

That was well said, Timberly. I got a call from a friend in Greenville a couple of days ago with the news. I met Bob (and Red) about 20 years ago, and like you said, they were fixtures in the poolrooms since that day. Bob was a good guy and was always nice to me. And he was always willing to help anyone who had any questions about the game.

I understand that he was in action when he had his heart attack. Knowing Bob, he was doing exactly what he wanted during his last minutes on Earth.

RIP.

Mike
