Rankings in different states...

I'm sure you guys have come across this issue time after time, whether it's going to a national tournament (APA comes to mind), or just playing in a tournament where the players are divided into divisions based on ability (Open/A/B/C/etc). I'm a B player in michigan, and have now relocated down to texas. I happen to think michigan has a pretty strong pool scene, quite a few good B/BB/A players would play in the local league and were always around to spar with. Now that i'm down here in texas, i'm going to get involved in the pool scene, play a couple of local tournaments a week or join a league (whichever seems more logical depending on where I get a job/how much free time I have). So is there a huge difference between states as far as how they rank their players? I don't want to leave a bad taste in peoples mouths if I come in, say I'm a B player and then proceed to beat up on everyone because their B is the equivilent to a C player in MI. Sort of like the APA players who play in very strong leagues having artificially low rankings, showing up at vegas and BBQing everyone in their bracket.
