Re-felting rails??

Hey all,

I have a valley bar box and wanted to re-felt it, now I was wondering can I re-felt the rails? or do I have to get new rails?

The metal edge needs along the side of the table needs to be removed from first and that will expose the bolts that hold the rails on. Just unbolt the rails by taking off the three bolts that hold each rail on from the side. You will see how the cloth is attached to the rail once the are off, contact cement and a few staples usually. Removing the rails will allow you to lift off the slate to recover that.

If the rubber itself is good and lively, then you just need to recover the rails. However, if the cushions are dead and the rubber feels more like cement than rubber, then you need to have new cushions installed. You can run a search on this forum for "cushion testing" which may be helpful. Your best bet would be to have a professional come in and let you know what should be done and quote you some prices. Good luck in whatever you decide.
